Hi @Joanne710,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I understand your new HP computer's screen has gone black and is flashing something too quickly to read; it could be due to a hardware initialization issue, a BIOS error, or a display driver problem. Here are a few steps you can try:
- Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn off the computer.
- Disconnect the power adapter and remove any external devices (USBs, printers, etc.).
- Press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the power and try turning it on again.
- Check for LED Blink or Beep Codes:
- If the screen is black but you see blinking lights or hear beeps, your system might be giving a diagnostic code.
- Count the number of blinks or beeps and refer to this guide:
👉 HP Notebook PCs - Computer beeps or a light blinks during startup | HP® Support
- Connect to an External Monitor:
- This helps determine if the issue is with the screen or the system itself.
- If the external monitor works, the laptop screen might need service.
- BIOS Recovery:
- If you briefly see a flashing message, it might be a BIOS recovery screen.
- Try pressing Windows + B (or Windows + V) while holding the Power button for 2–3 seconds, then release the power button but keep holding the keys for a few more seconds.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
