Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

I was able to resolve my issue by simply buying a new power cord /adapter from a friend. Now my laptop is running as normal but it has to be plugged in most of the time. My battery is obviously the cause ,once I get a new battery, I should be good.
My advice to you: b4 spending money on anything, borrow a power cord from a friend to check if that is the problem
Good luck

Enter BIOS and reset to Defaults, Save & Exit.

Have you tried tapping the F8 key just as the HP logo screen passes to see if you can get into Safe Mode? If you can get into SM and next do a complete shutdown before trying to restart it may jog the hdd out of sleep mode.

A faulty CD/DVd drive can cause a boot halt.Try removing the drive to see if it will boot.

Have you tried tapping the F11 key immediately after powering on to see if you can boot into Recovery from the hdd partition?

If it is the AMD version odds are it is a motherboard issue. It can be fixed fairly cheap. If you can remove the motherboard there are good services on eBay that will reflow the motherboard for well under $100 if they do not have to disassemble/reassemble. But there is no way to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, which these models are. The fix might last a year if you are lucky.

Huffer could very well be right. One of the better services I know of (and doesn't require you to remove motherboard) has been used by several members here and a personal friend of mine who sent her laptop to him.

Hey all,

You may want to try hitting F9 on boot and select the hard drive. I have a dx6700 and have found that to be the workaround on mine, not sure it will be the same for you, but it is something to try! 😉 Beats buying a new computer...

I have a dv6700 with the same issue with power up of LEDS, then shuts down.  I removed the motherboard and tested with just the motherboard, same thing.  I determined bad video chip that is imbedded on motherboard.  I search eBay for a replacement and found there is a HP GPU Copper Shim Kit For DV6500 DV6600 DV6700 DV6800 DV6900 Motherboard.  It adds a more force between the video graphics processor to keep the chip from burning up.  Like my motherboard.

Tried the copper shim , don"t waste your money or your time because it doesn't work .....
