Update:  The Seagate 5mm (ST500LT032) 500gb arrived today (Amazon is Awesome-2 day turnaround!!)  I got it formatted and installed and it's working perfectly.  I finally got the computer I really wanted:)    It's not a difficult upgrade once you know the correct parts to order-thanks to Macboat.  That send battery in the keyboard dock will come in handy no.

Hi everybody,

After almost a month looking for answers, i was able to add a Hard Drive for the keyboard base of my HP Split x2.

First my model is HP Split X2 13 M010DX

First You will need the HP HDD Hardware Kit 732279-001

Maintenance Manual

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03958968.pdf

Remember this is for Model M010DX, I am not sure is other models have the connector bellow the HDMI Board. While searching in the web everywhere states mines did not have it but it did have it so i recommend people to just open the laptop and check,

1- Open Your laptop

I mark in red circle the screws you will need to remove, including two of them behind the two round rubbers in the back. They have some type of glue so don't worries it will stick back with no problem.

Then you will need to snap it out that gray base. It took me almost 2 hours to figure out how to remove this part from the keyboard base because it feels like is going to break. I recommend to start from the HDMI edge, try to stick you nail in there and then little by little start removing the entire base.

dos.jpg

There is a weight by where the Hard Drive goes. Just remove it. I can see it in the top let corner on the picture. I removed it.

Then remove this connector which is the battery connector.

Then you will need to remove all screws holding the battery i think there is 14 of them, and ten just flip the battery to the left side. You wont need to unplugged any cables just move the battery to the side

cuatro.jpg

Then you will need to remove one more screw from the HDMI board. Make sure you don't mix the screw i think they have different sizes from the one you took out of the battery

cinco.jpg

Then you will only able to tilt the HDMI board and look under to see if your HDMI board has the connector for the Hard Drive

seis.jpg

If you have this Connector you are good to go.

You can use any HDD for laptop 7mm or less

This is the one i got from Best Buy for 70 bucks, Toshiba 1 Terabyte

This one is 7mm and it fits perfect, i know that 5mm will also. I don't think 9.5mm will fit since 7mm bearlie fits

siete.jpg

This HHD have the SATA connector and also has a Power connector. Then again i panic thinking i will need another cable to power the HDD but you DONT!!:smileylol:

YOU WILL ONLY NEED THE CABLE THAT COMES WITH THE HP HDD KIT AND THAT ONE WILL ALSO POWER THE HDD THOUGH THE SATA CONNECTION.

ocho.jpg

Now just snap the cable in there and then assemble the Hard Drive to the plastic cover that comes with the HP HHD Kit with the four tiny screws on the side. Make sure those screws are all the way in in order for the HDD to fit back in place on the base.

Then you will put the battery back in place the same way it was before. BE CAREFUL WITH THE SCREWS THAT GOES IN THE PLASTIC SIDE OF THE BATTERY, DO NOT TRY TO MAKE IT TO TIGHT CAUSE IT CAN BREAK THE PLASTIC.

nueve.jpg

Hard drive IN!! just out the two screws in place to hold the HHD from the base and that's IT!

You will now need to Snap back the cover of the base in place and screw it

Remember that after that you will need to go to Disk Management to assign a letter to the drive and Allocate the drive and then format it

Thanks for all the excellent guidance trekker and macboat.

After reading the posts I understand that I can upgrade my BB i5 gxxxx model to a 500 gb sata inside the keyboard.

Is this the only possible upgrade anyone has figured out so far. Would it be possible to put a ssd inside the keyboard.

Also could I kindly ask for step by step instructions to order the parts that are needed to upgrade (Links to the sites that were used). And instructions for installation after I have all the required items needed for an upgrade.

Thank You

Can anyone confirm which HP hdd cable this is?

It appears to be one of the DV series hdd cables.

They typically sell for $5-6 dollars. $50 seems overkill for the hdd kit (fabricating the chasis to hold the hdd is easy).

Thanks!

Check my previous posts as I list the part numbers and the HP part store's links are also provided in earlier posts.  You'll need to download the maintenance/parts manual that available for the G110DX in the  HP driver/download section of their website.  That document has the instructions for dissasembly.

Which model are you referring to, i.e. the M or the G?

HP Recommended

I have the M model, but the manuals only list the HDD "kit" as reference for the cable.

I called HP parts, and that was all they could find also (the entire kit, not the cable by itself).

I thought someone here might know.

Thanks,

To my knowledge, HP doesn't/won't break out just the cable but only sells it as part of the HD mounting kit.  You may have to bite the bullet on this one.

Trekker,

I agree that HP doesn't list the cable separately.

I was just hoping that someone might recognize it though.

$50 isn't punitive, but $5 is better.

I was wondering, has anybody actually upgraded the mSATA drive on the BestBuy SplitX2 G110 DX  from the 128gb to a 240+gb msata ssd? (The drive that is in the Tablet part of the laptop)

I saw on page 9, Trekker4935 listed part numbers that would fit.

Has anyone done the swap, wondering if the BIOS would detect and use the larger drive.

Thanks all, this is a great thread with good info.
