I have an HP Pavilion 15-e043cl Notebook PC with Model name E5K58UA I purchased August 2013. My best friend purchased the same make/model from the same place 2 weeks prior to myself. We have BOTH have had this same issue almost from the beginning. Speaking for mine...it has become increasing worse to the point I don't know if it will charge OR boot up the next time I attempt to turn it on. I have it "taped" the only way it will charge now. That changes almost daily, so I will have to move it around and re-tape it. We feel this was a hardware design issue from almost the time we purchased them. Unfortunately neither of us purchased the extended warranty. This was mainly in part that we bought them at Costco with my Costco AmEx which used to add an additional year to the warranty and apparently do not now. I have been researching and feel it is the connection jack in the computer. Can anyone confirm that and, if so, where would you recommend I purchase a replacement? I don't want to spend a ton of money given these were $399 new. I feel certain I am capable of fixing it as well. I also wanted it to go on record that this seems to be a VERY common issue which should NOT happen on a notebook this quickly. Neither of us carry these computers around with us on a daily or even a weekly basis. It seems quite ridiculous to be dealing with this issue already. I had a DELL computer for 7 years. I had to replace the entire power cord, but the connection port was never an issue. This seems put together much cheaper. I feel HP should replace the port at no charge, just don't expect that will happen. Any advise to where I can get the necessary replacement part at a reasonable price would be greatly appreciated. I don't particularly trust an original HP replacement part since the original ones don't seem to be made well in first place. Thanks so much!

There are no parts but HP parts. The power jack is on a dongle that plugs into the motherboard. They don't solder it directly to the board any more.
This is the Service Manual:
This is the Part:
(13) Power connector cable 719859-001
See Page 92 of the Manual. Here is the site where you can order the part:

I very much appreciate your answer. The links to the service manual and parts order page, as well as the explantion of the part needed were extremely helpful. I was able to order the part needed, just haven't had to time to install it yet. I was also able to find a generic [I'm a nurse] part for half the price which carried a 1 year warranty. I would have commented earlier, but wanted to be able to once I had actually replaced the part. Unfortunately, I can't do that at this time. Thank you very much for getting me a great place to start and hopefully successfully finish the repair.

I understand. Money is an issue for me at this time, so I needed to try to save. I did choose the one with a one year warranty which was not the cheapest which only carried a 6 month warranty. Given this has been almost from the day I purchased it, I figured it was going to be something I'd have to replace again anyway. I could just kick myself for not gettng it fixed while it would have been under warranty in the first place. I just thought it wasn't bad enough and had too many things going on to deall with it. Thanks again! I would have never found the information you provided if it weren't for you! 🙂

I had the same issue. With the slightest movement of the laptop the plug just fell out. I sent the laptop in to HP for a repair but the same problem returned. A new cord might help but the problem turned out to be the poor quality of HP parts. (The wifi card/driver is inferior too).
Here is the best solution. Rather then send HP any more money I tried a fix. I used the CUTTING BLADES on a common plier to VERY LIGHTLY crimp the plug on the power cord about 1/4 inch back from the tip. No need to even leave a mark on the plug, just use very light pressure all around the outer circumferance. Use a press it and test it approach until it holds and stays in the jack. Now the plug FINALLY stays in the jack as it should. You can be assured HP will not issue a recall, so do this. And don't buy HP again.

So, my son and I finally replaced the connection port. We used the generic part which looked EXACTLY like the one in which we removed. It was easy to do as long as we had the printed instructions in front of us and used them. It's time consuming, but wouldn't have been so much if we had printed all the instructions the first time around and not attempted to "guess" at it. It amazes me that one has to take so much of the computer apart in order to replace this part. i'm sure they aren't looking to make it easy for the consumer to fix their own. All the information you provided me was awesome and I greatly appreciated it. The part cost me $15 and our time.

Just so you know, HP did one thing under warranty. They replaced the "port" too. But the issue returned almost immediately. Obviously the port was not the real problem at all. The port is not well made true, but the real issue is the male end of the cord end itself. Carefully crimping the end of that cheap cord end finally DID fix the problem, free. Replacing the port (by HP) did not.

I have the same problem. I noticed my jack was not as snug as other computer jacks..
I just left it alone and hardly moved my laptop.. . This seems to be a problem with many computers the Jack for the power.
Is your plug having the blue tip on the power cord?
I personal believe that a class action suit should be filed against hp for a faulty part. I noticed that my power supply would get very hot, hotter than any other that I have toched at times when I touched it. I thought that was odd.
Now I have no charging light on the computer. the orange and white light do not come on. My battery is fully charged, but the computer now says it doesn't. I alway had problems from day one with the jack . It seemed like the plug would not go in all the way, like other computers but the light would come on.. then sitting there, I heard this noise where the jack was, thought I saw a smidgent of smoke. I unplugged it right away. the computer still runs but plugging back in I noticed my lights don't come on. the power supply lights don't light.
I tend to wonder did the old battery cause a power surge while charging, which is HP fault for putting in a bad battery or like everyone else who is having jack and plug problems as a result of defective parts and unsafe manufacturing of components. [Content Removed].
later I found out my battery was two years older than my computer..
