Hello @Georgie-M
Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome!
The message you get comes because the computer does not detect a HDD present.
If your computer is under active warranty, you should contact HP for assistant and service because if you do something on your own, your warranty may be void and not accepted should the need arise.
If your computer is not under active warranty period or you want to try it on your own, please check the computer's manual how to open the "box". Here is also a video example
>>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vd5FdeF3PP8
The video is about "how to replace" but you need to open the PC box, check the HDD, try to get it out and then get it back in to ensure it is in place.
If nothing helps, it may be something more serious and you will need to bring (or ship it) the PC to service to HP Authorized Service Center where the technicians will do this for you. If you are not sure where such a center is located, check these or contact HP for assistance in finding the nearest one for you:

Hope this helps !

I opened up the laptop and checked the connnections and all was ok. I ended up buying a new ssd drive as I was advised they were more stable and processed quicker. Paid a mate of a mate to install it as I was unsure how to get windows back on. It seems to wok quicker. But I did loose out on some memory space
