One last question.

When my battery drained from 100% to 16% I received a notice on my computer that said "Battery Counterfeit Check Error - Detected a non-HP battery."  Could that be the reason why the battery started draining??

Could be a glitch.  Make sure you have the latest bios

The "Battery Counterfeit Check Error" means your HP laptop thinks the battery isn't a genuine HP part, but it can also pop up due to a glitch or outdated BIOS.[ref_1, ref_2]
Quick Fixes to Clear the Error

  • Perform a Hard Reset: Shut down the laptop, unplug the charger, and hold down the power button for 15 to 30 seconds to drain residual power. Plug the charger back in and turn it on.[ref_1, ref_2]
  • Update your BIOS: An outdated system BIOS can misread genuine batteries. Head over to the official HP Support Website to download and install the latest BIOS update for your specific laptop model.[ref_1]
  • Reset Battery Drivers: Open Device Manager, expand the Batteries section, right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, and select Uninstall. Restart your computer so Windows can reinstall a fresh copy of the driver.[ref_1, ref_2]
  • Run Diagnostics: Restart your laptop and tap the F2 key repeatedly to open the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool, then run the battery test to check if the hardware is failing.[ref_1, ref_2]

If still a problem please run the battery report and post the summary

Please run the battery report and post the summery if you want.

You run the battery report by bringing up the administrator command window and running

powercfg/batteryreport

as shown below

After entering that explorer line you should see something like the following. You will have to click on it as it is long
https://stateson.net/docs/SP4_battery-report.html
Battery should last about 5 years but less for gaming systems.

Have you done a battery calibration?
