Hi there,

since a few weeks (probably after the last firmware update) our printer prints additional black lines on every paper.

Even replacing the black cartridge and all the other maintenance options didn't help.

What is the problem? (see the prints below)

Hi @Rifhus,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with print quality on your printer.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, I'm here to help you today.

Do you have the same issue when you make a copy on the printer standalone? (Place an original document on the scanner glass and make a copy to confirm hardware is working fine)

Please follow the steps below to fix the issue.

A) Perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) Refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.

D) If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to restore factory defaults and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

Hi Irwin6,

sorry for the late reply but thank you for the suggestions.
I ran through all the steps but nothing worked out for me - the problem still exists.
I'm a little bit disappointed because the suggestions are pretty much the same things I saw for other print problems but as you can see on the attended pictures in my initial post (hope the upload worked 😉 ) this isn't something somebody else already had (or I haven't just found it...) - so I don't have the feeling that you already know this problem or you haven't looked at the pictures and just gave me the "standard solution"

Therefore and because this was the second problem we got with HP printers in the last couple of years in times of the black days / week, we decided to give another company the chance - we just want a printer which works when we need it - no online-connection, no auto-buy for cartridges, no User / HP Smart login and things like that - just simply print (and scan and copy which always worked - so no problem with that).

Perhaps we will face similar problems with our new company but at the moment we are done with HP.

Nevertheless thank you for your effort and your try to help me! Keep on going and perhaps we gave up to early but as mentioned above this wasn't our first problem with HP printers...

Stay healthy and all the best for your future! 👋
