Black ink was not printing except in Best Quality mode.  There were no printhead problems reported, as I had replaced them with HP printheads a few months ago.  I observed an air gap of about 6 inches in the black ink line with the gap leading to the printhead.  As advised, I refilled the low black ink tank with black HP ink (32 XL), the only black ink this printer has had.  No change was observed.

Following the advice of the HP Employee, I removed and cleaned the contacts on the black printhead with a lint-free cloth.  Now the printer indicates communication problems with that printhead.

So now I cannot print at all.

In a separate 7602 post, an HP Employee suggested repriming the line via the HP Smart app, which appears not to be an option.

I'd like to get a straight answer on (1) how to reprime the black ink feed for the HP Smart Tank 7602, and how to recover communication with a genuine HP printhead of the same printer that had just been printing (albeit only in Best Quality mode).  Please don't supply a generic "how to change ink/printhead" answer, but carefully read what steps I've taken.  Thank you.

Hello @tneller

Please, try the procedures below:

HP inkjet printers - Alignment issues and errors | HP® Support

I recommend that if the procedure doesn't work, you send the equipment to a technical service center.

HP® Service Center Locator - United States | HP® Support

Best regards

Who said anything about alignment?

Hello @tneller

We are exploring possible alternatives.

But I think it's best if you take the equipment to a repair shop.

Best regards
