Hi,

Similar to other posts, I have an MFP M283fdw which was working perfectly until it popped up the message: "Indicated cartridges blocked for containing a non-HP chip" when I installed new (non HP printers).  The printer was working fine.

I also have cartridge protection turned off so there is no reason why this should have happened.

I noticed that there were many with the same printer experiencing the same issue which suggests that there was a glitch in on of the firmware updates.  Is there a way to get HP to review and fix this?  This is not OK and we should be allowed to use whatever printers we want to that fit our financial budgets, not dictated by HP to solely use their printers.  Had I known this, I would have never purchased the printer in the first place.

Welcome to the HP support community.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Community.
