I have a printer HP office jet pro 8710. I recently ran out of ink and replaced it with a brand new genuine HP cartridge that I purchase about a year ago. The printer gives me an error saying that I have an older generation cartridge that doesn't work in my printer. That's **bleep** because I bought this cartridge in a two-pack that came with the one that ran out two days ago. Bad enough you pay an arm and a leg for ink cartridges, now the printer won't let us use a brand new genuine HP cartridge because it's a year old!!!! I'm pist! I've tried the troubleshoot you gave on another trend by removing the power cord and waiting 60 sec and re-initialize the printer. and it did not work. Can you please help me solve this issue?

For a possible workaround, try this website. I was able to use my older genuine HP ink cartridges after following the process on the website. Use at your own risk, and I would run virus/malware scans on anything downloaded. https://www.compandsave.com/hp-printer-firmware-downgrade

I have the same question. I have two brand new ink cartridges that I can't use even though they came from the same pack of the ink I am trying to replace. I keep getting the "Older Generation Cartridge" error, even though its the same "Generation" i was just using. Why would they sell a large pack of ink if they're just going to make a software update that prevents me from using it when I run out? Can someone please help me resolve this issue.
