There is a printer at my job that we have always used generic ink in (for at least 2 years). Yesterday when the cartridge was replaced, we got the "Non-HP Chip Detected" error. The first line reads "The indicated cartridges have been blocked by the printer firmware because they contain a non-HP chip." This is preventing the printer from functioning for its primary purpose, printing. I have disabled cartridge protection and that didn't solve the issue. I tried rolling back the firmware, but the rollback fails. Besides being strong-armed into buying an HP cartridge, what else can be done?

I figured out a solution. I was able to find older firmware and now the printer works. Just make sure automatic updates are turned off so HP can't bully us with this issue again. Here's the link (good for 30 days from today), https://easyupload.io/hniu8u. Here's a new link, with a different website. https://www.dropbox.com/s/diam94l3peq5fkj/HP_OfficeJet_Pro_7740_7-17-20.exe?dl=0
