HP printer printing too light, HELP!

Hello. I have an HP printer (info attached) that is printing my photos really light like white washed. The photo example is what the professional photographer gave me (left) vs. what my printer printed (right). I’m about 90% sure it’s my printer because my sister was able to print the images on her printer without an issue. Below are all the things I’ve done and used. PLEASE HELP!

• using HP glossy photo paper
• placed photo paper in photo paper tray
• printing high res image files
• tried printing from iPhone photos, Google docs, Google photos, laptop, from HP Smart app
• when printing chose “high quality” or similar
• have printed other pictures taken with iPhone and they printed out without an issue
• brand new black and color ink
• cleaned and aligned ink cartridges (several times) with no issues
• printer is up-to-date
• spoke to HP support and they said it wasn’t my printer because the results from the “clean” and “align” maintenance came out fine. IT HAS TO BE THE PRINTER!

Hi @MM2-2,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already done quite a bit of troubleshooting, but there are a few more things you can try to address the light printing issue with your HP Envy 7900e.

  • Check Printer Settings: Ensure that the printer settings are optimized for photo printing. Look for options such as "Photo Paper" or "Glossy Paper" in the settings and select the appropriate paper type.
  • Color Settings: Check the color settings in your printer driver or software. Make sure that the color settings are set to produce vibrant and accurate colors. Sometimes, printers default to settings that conserve ink, resulting in lighter prints.
  • Calibrate Monitor: If you're printing from a computer, ensure that your monitor is calibrated correctly. Sometimes, what you see on your screen might not accurately represent how it will print. Calibrating your monitor can help ensure that the colors are accurate.
  • Printer Driver Update: Although you mentioned that your printer is up-to-date, it's worth double-checking if there are any newer driver updates available from HP's website. Sometimes, new updates include fixes for printing issues.
  • Try Different Software: If you've been using the HP Smart app or other software to print, try using a different software or printing directly from an image viewer program to see if the results differ.
  • Test with Different Settings: Experiment with different print settings such as "Normal Quality" or "Best Quality" to see if the print quality improves.
  • Print Quality Diagnostic: Most printers have a diagnostic or test page that you can print. This page typically includes blocks of color that can help you identify if there are any issues with specific colors or printhead alignment.
  • Printhead Cleaning: Although you mentioned cleaning the printhead, try running the printhead cleaning utility again, as sometimes multiple cleanings are required to fully resolve printing issues.

By systematically going through these steps, you should be able to identify and hopefully resolve the issue with your HP Envy 7900e printer printing too light.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello, I have done all of the above except checking HP's website for printer driver updates. HP's website has not been the easiest to navigate through this process in my experience. Are you able to send the link or let me know where to look on HP's website to check for driver updates? Thank you.

Hi @MM2-2,

Thank you for your response,

But I can certainly guide you on where to find the necessary resources on HP's website.

To find driver updates for your HP Envy 7900e printer on HP's website, follow these steps:

  • Open your web browser and go to the HP Support website. The URL is: https://support.hp.com/
  • Once on the HP Support website, locate the search bar. You can usually find it at the top of the page.
  • In the search bar, type "HP Envy 7900e printer" and press Enter or click on the magnifying glass icon to search.
  • You'll be presented with a list of search results. Look for the official HP support page for your printer model. It should be labeled something like "HP Envy 7900e All-in-One Printer series" or similar.
  • Click on the link to navigate to the support page for your printer.
  • On the support page, look for a section related to drivers or software downloads. This is where you'll find the latest drivers and software updates for your printer.
  • You may need to select your operating system (e.g., Windows, macOS) to see the available drivers specifically for your system.
  • Once you've found the driver section for your printer and selected your operating system, you should see a list of available driver downloads. Look for the latest driver update and click on it to download.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the driver update for your HP Envy 7900e printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
