After a recent update to the firmware of my 7740 Officejet Pro the black ink cartridge 952XL Black showed up as empty. I replaced the cartridge with another one with the same date etc. from the same package as the one that needed to be replaced and got an error "The indicated cartridge is an older generation cartridge that does not work in your printer" etc. and will not let me print anything in black. I put the other one back in and the printer error was "One or more HP genuine cartridges have been previously used" etc. but it printed with no issue. I cleaned the contacts and unplugged the printer for a few minutes and tried again with the same result. Why would "genuine HP cartridges" stop working in the printer they were designed for maybe because off updating firmware ? I bought spare cartridges just so I would not run out of ink and now I can't use the "Genuine HP cartridges"?
I also have an HP DesignJet 120. Should I update its firmware or will it do the asme thing?
The printer is HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All in One
Printer Product Number G5J38A
The firmware version is EDWINXPP1N002.2215A.00
