HP has decided, against my knowledge, to DOWNGRADE my Officejet 5212 via background firmware "UPDATE". Previously I have been able to use non-HP inkjet cartridges (remanufactured) in this printer. In fact, I bought the printer knowing from other reports this was possible. Now, magically, I get the ERROR: "The indicated cartridges are blocked because they contain non-HP circuitry." So now what do I do with $100s worth of brand-new cartridges that HP has BRICKED?
Seriously, this is the stuff that class action lawsuits are made of.
It is cheaper to by a NEW Canon or Brother printer than replace the two ink cartridges on the HP. I'm also mad because I own two HP laptops AND an HP Envy desktop. THIS IS NOT HOW TO TREAT YOUR CUSTOMERS HP.

@SvenGOlly, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.
HP does not recommend the use of non-HP inks. It may or may not work.
The print quality cannot be guaranteed.
Download available firmware updates from the HP website
With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
The third party ink cartridges will work. But there are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it's not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.
If the issue persists, refer to - Dynamic Security Enabled Printers
There is no option to downgrade the printer firmware. If you find posts/instructions on the same from other community members, You may try it at your own discretion.
You may purchase replacement cartridges and other supplies from the HP Store or local retailers.
Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.

{The third party ink cartridges will work. }
No they won't. I have been using Office World cartridges just fine for the past 1 1/2 years. The latest firmware update bricked them. HP is just being greedy with their mediocre printers and high priced cartridges.
When I bought my printer, I bought it with the understanding (based on reviews and comments by other users) that third party cartridges would work. It's even mentioned in HP's terms. You changed the rules mid-ownership without my informed consent.
