I continue to receive error message to “Remove & reinstall ink cartridge.”  This only happens with my black ink.  I have removed and reinserted Current cartridge; removed and inserted a refilled cartridge; removed and inserted brand new cartridge; Shut printer down and restarted it; shut printer down by unplugging it from wall and back of computer; I checked for updates to firmware but it was already up to date.

i am using a wireless connection.

It will print in single cartridge mode but not an ideal long term solution.

I’ve exhausted my knowledge on this issue.  Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Dear Carla67,

As you have attempted to insert numerous different cartridges, it seems that you may have an issue with the black ink cartridge pen's contacts. It is possible that they could become damaged from using the printer for many years, as every time a cartridge is installed or removed the contacts can sometimes slowly wear down over time. I would suggest checking your printer's warranty. If it is in warranty, then I would suggest calling HP for more help. Refilled, remanufactured, and compatible cartridges can damage your printer, and may void your warranty. If your printer is out of warranty, then you can attempt to clean the gold contacts in the printer using a microfiber cloth. Be very gentle as to not damage the printer.

Have a great rest of your day,

Thank you, Evan!  I appreciate your advice!  I will give that a try and let you know if it works!

Keeping my fingers crossed!

Evan,

First let me apologize for the delay in getting back to you.  Had some health challenges that side tracked me over the last month.    I did finally get a chance to attempt to gently clean the black ink cartridge contacts.  Unfortunately, my issue remains.  I am still able to print in "single-cartridge" mode with my color cartridge, but perhaps its time to look for a replacement printer.  This one may have out-lived it's usefulness.

Many thanks for your suggestion!

Have a great day!

Carla
