HP DeskJet 2852e All-in-One Printer

So I have had an Officejet 5520 for several years now and it finally died on me. So in searching for a compatible printer that uses the same cartridge, the 564XL, I discovered that either majority or all the printers that take the cartridge are discontinued. I have been searching for some time and seems to be getting mixed information and I brought a new printer, in my haste, that was said to be compatible. I only realized it wasn't after setup of the new printer, Deskjet 2852.

Does anyone know of any compatible printers with my cartridges, that is not discontinued?

Hi @AaronJ0294,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

You’re absolutely correct, the HP 564/564XL ink cartridges are from an older generation of HP printers, and unfortunately, all printers that use these cartridges have been discontinued for several years. HP has moved to newer ink systems like HP 910/912, HP 952, HP 67, and Smart Tank refillable ink.

Why You Can’t Find a New Printer for 564XL

  • The HP 564 series was used in models like HP Photosmart, HP OfficeJet 6500A/7500A, and some early Envy printers.
  • These models are now end-of-life, and HP no longer manufactures printers that support 564XL.

Your Options

  1. Return the DeskJet 2852e (since it uses HP 67 cartridges, not 564XL).

  2. Buy a refurbished printer that supports 564XL (e.g., HP Photosmart 7520, OfficeJet 4620), but this is risky because parts and support are limited.

  3. Move to a new printer family
    • If you print a lot, consider HP Smart Tank (bottle-based, very low cost per page).
    • If you print occasionally, HP Envy Inspire or HP OfficeJet Pro series (uses HP 910/912 or HP 64 cartridges).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
