You can use off brand cartridges but they must contain an HP chip. We well plenty of 3rd party color without issue. Contact your vendor of the cartridge, this is their problem not yours. although they will likely insist that it is HP and not their cartridge. Stick to your guns and either get it replaced or get your money back and buy from a more reputable vendor who will stand behind their product without giving you grief.

This is a nee firmware update for sure. We were fine this morning and the printer installed an update on its own, then we got the same message. Basically full toner cartridges had to be thrown out because HP doesn't like them anymore. What a waste.

Same here. They were working perfectly fine until about 10.30 and then they were not. HP should hang their head in shame. A perfectly good printer now is completely un-usable unless we spend more money on HP...

I'm going to stop buying HP printers. I have for years, but this is ridiculous. This is a colossal waste of my time and money. I can't even believe I'm on here complaining about this. I just bought 4 of their Laptops for my employees, but I'm going to return them to Costco and swap them out for another brand. Maybe they'll take this stupid printer back as well!

I got this error message with original cartridges - I am assuming are HP. Without the packaging (I've had printer for about 15 months, it's a low volume use machine) - how do I know if the supplier used non-HP or HP cartridges?
