This is all utterly ridiculous and beyond unacceptable!! I also have 3 HP Sceptre laptops and 6 HP printers. I'm up to upgrade them all next year and 2023. I want HP to know this, I am accelerating my change ups to 1st quarter of 2022 for EVERYTHING and will never be purchasing HP again! This is detrimental to any home or business user, and due to this firmware upgrade, it's literally affected by business negatively.

Furthermore, the options within the setup screen to turn the CARTRIDGE PROTECTION and CARTRIDGE POLICY to "OFF" are no longer working. You get to this setting by connecting via your printer's IP or the HP smart app, then going to: System / Supply Settings. Well, why even have these options if they do absolutely NOTHING.

I'm so upset right now I want to take the printers and offer them to the great Fire Pit I have out back. I'm actually going to try the firmware downgrade, but keep in mind you then need to turn off auto updates of such, and now we're stuck with old firmwares. Therefore, as I type this, I'm already ordering two competitor printers.

Completely unacceptable.

To turn off auto firmware updates, on your printer goto: SETUP / SERVICE / LASERJET UPDATE (Press NEXT) / MANAGE UPDATES / CHECK AUTOMATICALLY - Then turn this option to "OFF".

I used the one recommended in the link.  20200612   (looks like a Jun 2020 firmware update)

Worked first try for me.  Good luck.

It took three firmware downgrade attempts for me, but now printer is functional. I have turned off all future updates, which sucks, but gotta have a functional machine. I would sure like to hear from HP directly about this fiasco.

The newest firmware update also suddenly blocked cartridges on me that were previously working. Firmware downgrade made them work again.

Our next printer won't be a HP considering such business practises.

FINALLY printing.  THANK YOU!

I've downloaded the Firmware downgrade god knows how many times, but how do I get the printer to accept it and then install it?

In the linked reddit post, there is a tutorial how to set the printer port to a regular TCP/IP port instead of the HP default.

After setting that, the firmware downgrade worked.

Thank you so much, took a couple of times to get it right but it worked!!

You are wrong.  I have authentic HP Cartridges

Without any warning HP just stops owners of HP printers to use own choice of cartridges. When I buy a car I can also choose which brand of petrol to use. I just bought myself a new (non HP) printer as I cannot accept such customer unfriendly company policy.
