HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 All-in-One Printer

I originally thought it was just my blue ink cartridge, can't remember if it is cya? It was a new cartridge and it was not printing on the cleaning sheet.

I have tried aligning and cleaning the printer heads.

I have reset the factory settings.

I have unplugged it and plugged back in.

I manually cleaned the printer heads.

HP even sent me a replacement cartridge b/c it was under warranty and it still did not work.

I was wondering what else I have not tried.

The only other things is that the printer will not align when I run that alignment and scan the sheet.  However, there is nothing wrong with the cleaning printer sheet, besides no blue.

Any direction would be much appreciated.

Hi @Ling2860,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for the detailed breakdown. Since you've ruled out the cartridge itself on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 All-in-One Printer. (including using a replacement from HP), cyan ink (blue) still not printing points toward a printhead failure or ink delivery issue, not the cartridge.

Let's walk through a few steps to try and solve the Issue.

1. Run All Three Levels of Printhead Cleaning

HP recommends running up to three levels of cleaning, with a 30-minute wait before repeating if needed:

  • On the printer control panel:
    • Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead
    • Run the cleaning and print the test page
    • If cyan is still missing, repeat up to three times
    • Wait 30 minutes before repeating the full cycle if needed

2. Check Cartridge Venting

Sometimes the vent on the cartridge is blocked, which prevents ink flow:

  • Remove the cyan cartridge
  • Look at the top of the cartridge — there should be a small vent (usually under the label)
  • Use a pin to gently clear any blockage in the vent
  • Reinsert the cartridge and try printing again

3. Try a Different Cyan Cartridge (if available)

Even though HP replaced the cartridge, if you have access to another known-working cyan cartridge, try it. This helps rule out a rare batch issue.

4. Update Firmware

Make sure your printer is running the latest firmware:

5. Check for Internal Ink System Failure

If none of the above works, the issue may be with the printhead assembly or ink delivery system. This is especially likely if:

  • Cyan never prints, even after cleaning
  • Other cartridges work fine
  • The printer fails alignment due to a missing color

In this case, HP may need to replace the printhead or service the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
