Why don't you just provide a link to the software patch!!  Everyone here appears to get a private message.

 

I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 with GENUINE EFFING HP CARTRIDGES and  replacing like-for-like.  Both sets of cartridges were purchased at the same time, to "ensure I don't run out of ink".   Not cool that this is a know problem and there in no published fix.  If there is, point me to the link so I can print again.  Publish it here for the next user with an issue.

I'm having the same problem with 8715 printer, replaced the empty black cartridge with an HP replacement from Costco and get the "older generation" error.  HP needs to step up and give us all a solution.

I'm having the same issue with my OfficeJet 6958.  I'm getting the "Older Cartridge" message.  It's a shame because I bought the 902XL from Costco 18 months ago, so it's legit HP.  In other words HP got my money (via costco).  Could someone at HP message me the fix for this error.  Kind regards.
