I returned the cartridge and purchased a new one.  Same issue.

I put the old one in and shut down and unplugged.  Plugged in, inserted the new cartridge and powered on,  Same problem.

Now what?

what does the printer status report show?
HP Smart diagnostics show anything?
Print and scan doctor show the problem?

Did this just happen after a printer firmware upgrade? After a windows update?

 

Check for fake ink (just guessing)

To check if an HP ink cartridge is genuine, look for a security label on the cartridge, scan the QR code on the label with your phone, and then go to HP's website hp.com/go/ok to verify the serial number on the label; if the label appears tampered or the serial number doesn't validate, the cartridge is likely not genuine.
