I have a Photosmart C4580 with cartridge problems. After fitting brand new HP cartridges I still get error messages - 'Printer cartridge(s) missing or not detected', 'Alignment page not detected' and 'Incompatible print cartridges'.
I have read that other users have similar problems. Can anyone please help.

Hi @rja666,

Cartridge problems in an HP Photosmart C4580 printer can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve these issues. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you.
Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that you've installed the correct and compatible cartridges for your HP Photosmart C4580 printer. HP printers can be very specific about the cartridge models they accept. Refer to your printer's manual or HP's website to verify the compatible cartridge models.
Inspect Cartridges: Remove the new cartridges and inspect them for any protective tape or plastic covers that may have been left on. These can block the contacts or nozzles and cause errors. Also, look for any visible damage on the cartridges.
Clean the Cartridge Contacts: If the contacts on the cartridges appear dirty or have residue on them, gently clean them with a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water. Be sure not to touch the nozzles, as this can damage them.
Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a minute or two. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This can often reset the printer's internal sensors and resolve cartridge errors.
Update Firmware/Software: Ensure that your printer's firmware and software are up to date. Sometimes, a firmware update can fix compatibility issues. Visit HP's official website and download the latest firmware and drivers for your printer model.
Perform a Semi-Full Reset: This can sometimes help with cartridge detection issues. To do a semi-full reset, follow these steps:
- Turn off the printer.
- Disconnect the power cord.
- Press and hold the "#" and "3" keys on the printer's keypad.
- While holding these keys, reconnect the power cord.
- Continue to hold the keys until the printer turns on, and then release them.
Check for Mechanical Obstructions: Inspect the printer's carriage (the part that holds the cartridges) for any obstructions or foreign objects that might be preventing it from moving properly.
Replace with a Different Set of Cartridges: If you have access to another set of compatible cartridges, try installing those to see if the problem persists. This can help determine if the issue is with the cartridges themselves.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
