HP DeskJet 4158e All-in-One Printer

I am not internet savvy, but I bought my DeskJet over a year ago and I am not able to figure out if the printer cartridges that came with the printer stop working if you do not subscribe to their monthly service.  It worked fine until I canceled the service, at least I think so.  (I have only tried one other time to print and had no luck.)  However, since I only print less than one or two sheets per month, I knew it would take a long time to get through the cartridges and it looks like they are at least half full.   I assumed that since they came with the printer, they would work regardless of being subscribed.  I need to find out if that is true or if it only works while subscribed.

Would someone please advise me?  Or tell me how to reach HP to ask?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.
