After replacing my ink cartridges, I got the message that they are deleted.  When I started I knew I had to change the black.  Two colors were half way, and red was lower.  Changed the black, than message said another was deleted so I changed the red.   Then it's saying all of them.  I shut down the printer 8720.  Now it shows red empty yellow and blue 1/3 and black 3/4.  Black was full before and haven't printed anything.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Hi @Kathy29526,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

When you encounter issues where your HP printer indicates that new ink cartridges are empty or deleted, there are several steps you can try to resolve the problem:

Check the Ink Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the ink cartridges are installed correctly. They should click into place securely in their respective slots. Sometimes, a cartridge might be slightly out of place, which can cause the printer to display an error.

Inspect the Ink Cartridges:

  • Make sure that the protective strip or tape covering the ink nozzles and contacts has been removed.
  • Check for any dirt or debris on the copper contacts of the cartridge that might prevent proper communication with the printer.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds before reconnecting and powering it back on.
  • Sometimes, a reset can resolve temporary issues with the printer.

Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure your printer’s firmware is up-to-date by visiting https://support.hp.com/us-en. Updates can fix bugs that might cause issues with ink detection.

Perform a Printer Clean Cycle: Run a cleaning cycle to ensure there are no blockages in the ink nozzles. This option is usually found in the printer's maintenance settings.

Use Genuine HP Ink Cartridges: Non-HP cartridges or refilled cartridges may not always be recognized correctly by the printer. Ensure you are using genuine HP cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
