Same thing here.  An endless cycle now of auto download then fail download then hit ok, NOT retry

This only started after I changed cartridges (HP Instant Ink subscription type). Annoying because of all the printer noises happening and frozen time where printing not available for several minutes.

Other than  this the printer has performed fine, no issues.

Did speak with support but after several futile attempts to fix, they indicated it was a widespread problem and HP was working on the fix however I will need to try an update download  periodically to see if a fix has come through.

Hey Doug,

I'm experiencing the same issue and it seems that an HP employee responded to this thread regarding this issue. I tried the steps that were recommended by the HP employee, yet the issue persists.

Thus, I guess we will have to wait until we get further assistance from HP.

It's really annoying with time wasting. If you hit "ok" it takes several minutes to reset to a condition you can print in so I just turn the printer off and wait for it to be ready to print. Either way you have to wait.

I'm surprised it takes so long to fix this by HP?

I'm going to see if theres a way to manually get this supposed update onto the printer, I'll try anything.

I have had the same problem for several days, I solved it by addressing the firmware directly from my computer using the printers ip address. in my case i had set the ip address manually so that it is static. Select Settings at the top line, then scroll down to security and select administrative settings, scroll to the bottom where it says printer updates and unselect any checked boxes and save the new setting. This worked for me.

I have also been experiencing the update download failing for the past several days.

I am NOT able to navigate "Select Settings at the top line, then scroll down to security and select administrative settings, scroll to the bottom where it says printer updates" on the screen of my printer as the options are not there.

I also do NOT have an Advanced Settings option in my HP Smart on my PC even though it is connected to the printer OK and Instant Ink syncs.

I also am getting "System Error - Network connection error, Check network and try again" when I try to open the embedded web server on my PC, even though the wireless connection on the printer is active.

I have done several versions of resets and re-installs with no success. All regular printer functions are working OK when NOT stuck trying to update.

I have active Care Pack support, opened a case # 5110017789, went thru troubleshooting via chat which did not solve the problem, and the case is now closed.  I called telephone support but was told I would be called back, which didn't happen yet.

If anyone can suggest something else to try, please let me know. I will continue calling HP and will post anything I learn.

Peter try it not using HP Smart. Go to your printer's IP address and access administrative settinggs there. You can find the IP address on the Connectivity report you can print from the printer. Under Connectivity Settings, you will see a URL. I was just able to do this using that IP address:

Select Settings at the top line, then scroll down to security and select administrative settings, scroll to the bottom where it says printer updates and unselect any checked boxes and save the new setting.

I think this download problem is related to using NON-INSTANT INK cartridges.  I had a real HP black cartridge from before subscribing to Instant Ink and I installed it about a week ago and then the download error started appearing.  It did "complain" that I had installed a NON-INSTANT INK cartridge but it was recognized as a real HP cartridge.  When I installed an Instant-Ink black cartridge the problem stopped happening.

I followed the instructions on this post to stop the auto downloads so maybe that will keep this from happening in the future.

THANKS!

Same problem here.  No matter what I try, it won't update!

Perhaps the anomaly here is that there is no update.  I searched for available updates and have not found an applicable one.

Peter,

Thank you for perservering.  Same issues here.  I wonder why HP has not posted any solution because this has been going on for a couple weeks.  You would think they would have addressed it by now.  Keep us posted on anything you hear from them.  We all know the pain of trying to get a solution from a real person.
