HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 (HP611CC5)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently Purchased the HP 8720 to replace an HP 8600.  I am running the printer wirelessly.  the printer and both PC and Laptop are all on the same network.  Under printer assistant I have clicked on "Manage Scan to Computer" and the pop up box reads "Scan to Computer is currently unavailable.   The Click to FiX launchs  Scan Doctor 5.1.After selecting the printer (where I can see teh IP address) I click next and get an error that the printere cannot be found.   I have cycled the printer off and on and retried to connect the scanner with out success.

Next, the Click to "Disable Scan to Computer reads "Disable" - which I understand to mean that it is in fact enabled.  I actually disbaled it and re-enabled to verify.

Lastly, I can see the printer on both my phone (like printing and email) and in the HP Smart app on my phone (Apple).

I have 40.12.1161 installed (latest available)

Check Windows Image Acquisition settings

  1. In Windows, search for and open View local services.

  2. In the Services window, scroll down the list and find Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).

  3. Look at the Status and Startup Type values.

    • If the status is Started or Running and the Startup Type is Automatic, WIA is running correctly. Skip to the next step.

Making sure WIA Status is Running and Startup Type is Automatic

    • If the status is Disabled or no status displays, right-click Windows Image Acquisition (WIA), click Properties, click the General tab, select Automatic from the Startup type dropdown menu, and then click Start.

If the Start button is grayed out, go back to the Services menu, make sure Remote Procedure Call, Shell Hardware Detection, RPC Endpoint Mapper, and DCOM Server Process Launcher are running and set as Automatic, and then start WIA.

Unacceptable solution -- It is really time consuming for one to uninstall and re-intall all the software once every few weeks. HP should get to the root of the problem.

Did you resolve this and is there a solution for Mac OS?  I can scan from all other connected devices and no longer can scan from my iMac, which has been connected and working for 2 years.  Thank you.
