So, how do I change the cartridge and see how much ink there is in there?

Excellent.  Simplest workaround so far.  With luck, this workaround will last until HP issues a proper fix.  BTW, I found Hpqdirec.exe in the bin sub-folder of the folder cited below.

Oops yeah it was in the bin subfolder. Edited my original post.

Hi Jim,

you workarround works fine for your  W10 version  1909 but on version 2004 there are more issues

The problem is that the latest version of  "HP-Photosmart All-In-One series" installation program is not working at all

once the setup is started, the only option you can choose from the menu is EXIT.

This behaviour is the same on a clean W10 or on a system with a previuos "solution center" installation (performed in the past)

On a W7 machine the setup program still work fine; if "solution center" is already installed it will ask you to uninstall the "older version" first; then you can install again (the same version).

The version I'm speaking about is "PS_AIO_02_Net_Full_Win_WW_130_140"; to avoid this problem I had to install this older version "100_228_PS_AIO_02_Full_Net_ita_NB"

Any idea on why the install menu has disappeared ?

I have found this information on HP support site. It was a known problem which would occur to HP Printers manufactured before 2010. HP Solution Centre will not work without flash player. Workarounds are detailed in this link:

I've found another easy workaround that works for now, based on the 'flaw' that enables Solution Center to work with a rolled back date.

Download a neat little utility called

'RunAsDate'  (freeware)    https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/run_as_date.html

I downloaded, and installed this utility on my  desktop...works just fine

I downloaded,  extracted , and put this  utility on my desktop,   and set it to have the date go back to like Jan 7th...seems to work just fine...

It's great, it is working perfectly and very easy !

This is fine if you have already installed the Solution Center in the past

but if for some reason you need to re-install it you're stuck because setup nowaday isn't running any more on W10

I' dont know the reason yet but it seems to me that it will search somethig in the registry without finding it

so on the setup menu the only button that appears is "EXIT"

I have the same problem.

I'm thinking it is to do with a recent Windows Operation System software update on or around 15th January 2021.

January 12, 2021—KB4598242 (OS Builds 19041.746 and 19042.746) (microsoft.com)

January 12, 2021—KB4598242 (OS Builds 19041.746 and 19042.746)

I've tweet MS Windows and HP now with the information, hopefully the can provide a further software update to correct this is it is the problem.

thanks, Dragon-Fur. HP Scan and Capture did the trick for me. At least I don't have to purchase another scanner. I was able to output to PDF file, which is critical for my communications options, now that fax is a dead duck, since I don't have a real phone line anymore.

I have uninstalled KB4598242

after the reboot nothing was changed
