I wrote an article telling you how to fix this. I found the "Use the Uninstaller etc." process a giant frustration, and ineffective.

I installed the new Mac OS (11.0.1) & can no longer use my hp laser jet p1006. I was getting the "will damage your computer" message, so I uninstalled the printer & uninstalled the driver. Now I can't reinstall the printer since it says there is no driver for it. What now??

christianboyce:  i tried your solution, and got exactly the same result as i got using hp's solution:  everything seems fine until the moment the printer should start printing--then nothing, silence, no action,  all lights are on, all looks fine, but no printing,  also, scan function now doesn't even show up to be selected.  it's a deskjet 2132.  all i can do at this point is check out consumer reports and other reviews and try to find a printer by another manufacturer--which is too bad, this was a perfect printer for my simple needs and now it's a huge paperweight.  after getting thoroughly fed up with apple's greed and ripoffs, i was about to replace my old mac with a new hp based on much research, but now i'll have to rethink that too.

Thank you. So much easier than HPs piece of crap software. I can print now but I can't scan. Same pop up message about the framework. Any suggestions on how to get HP Easy Scan working again?

HP Recommended

This is a guess, but maybe: try scanning without using the HP Easy Scan software. If you go to Preview, then File, then Import... you might be able to scan. If you go to Image Capture (Applications Folder) you can do the same thing. Or... if you go to Settings/Printers & Scanners and then click on your printer and then click Scan (if it's there)-- same thing again. Three ways to get to the same place. Let us know.

Hello Therg,

I take it you mean you're still getting the pop up message. Go to Finder, enter framework and search. ANY file(s) that come up, move them to trash, then empty trash. Be sure and close HP Easy Scan, then try again. It's been a while since I read my posts on this matter, but I even deleted HP Easy Scan then downloaded it again from HP, using the model number of my printer. However, delete any and all files regarding framework and this should stop the pop ups. If you need to scan in the meantime you might try clicking the OK button on the pop up.

Are you sure about that? There are a lot of system files with the name "framework" in them. Are none of them needed now? Or did you mean just the ones in the hp folder?

I followed your 3 steps, including deleting ALL my HP printers. I have the laserjet P1006 that isn't working + an officejet 5258. Now neither is working. When I tried to add the printers back in, only the laserjet showed up. There were only 2 HP drivers & I chose the HP LasetJet PCL Series 4/5, even thought that's not what I have. It did warn me that "it is not from the manufacturer & may not let you use all the features of the printer." The printer still doesn't work. And the OfficeJet didn't even show up as an option to install.  Now what?? I now have no printer at all.

That's correct Christianboyce, hp files.

You can only add a printer that the Mac can "see," either via WiFi, or via USB, or via Ethernet. The first step is to make sure the printer is connected, either to the network or to the Mac directly. Then, you have to be sure the printer is not in some sort of "set-up mode" or offline mode or anything other than "read to go" mode. Then you need a driver. Either use the Apple AirPrint driver, or use the HP driver that is appropriate for your model.

But the first step is, your Mac has to be able to "see" the printer when you click the "Add Printer" button (the +) in the Printers & Scanners box.
