The solution is to download this package which will update drivers AND THE CERTIFICATE:
ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-printer-essentials-S-5_14_8_4.pkg

Easy Admin did nothing. Easy Startup did nothing. 5.1 drivers did nothing. This worked for me!

Catalina 11.15.6/7 considers  HP Smart components as malware and kills the processes that support printing:

I've read all the posts, some say something has worked, but unable to follow the thread to determine what worked.  Can the person who was successful post what they did?

I had HP Smart installed;
Removed the printer from the Preferences
Installed  hp-printer-essentials-S-5_14_8_4.pkg
Added the printer in the preferences.

But with another Mac, I had issues that the drivers have to be installed every time I print a document.

This didn't work for me - the "Uninstall HP software" is greyed out.

Here's what did:

1. Go to Applications folder and delete the HP folder plus any HP applications.

2. Download HP Easy Start

3. Install and select "Use HP driver" when prompted.

4. Continue with your day and do not think too much about the 90 minutes this issue cost you

Cheers

I did all of this, the problem went away and came back as soon as I chose to print.  Before it was another error message and now, Matterhorn....
