Forum Question 1/10/16:

Hello, all of a sudden (past 2 weeks) I can't access my wired network OfficeJet Pro 8600 via the EWS, the software stopped accessing the printer and Scan Doctor can't find the printer. I can print and ping the printer. I've turned off the Firewall, tried accessing the EWS via Chrome, Edge and IE 11. I've restored Comcast Gateway to factory defaults. I’ve restored pc to a point I know when it was working and also re/installed latest drivers, software etc. Tried different ports on Gateway.

Wireless Install can't find printer. Re-installing optional software don’t find printer, tried manual IP search as well, all to no avail.

Can copy and fax from printer.

Windows 10.

Printer Firmware: CLP1CN1829AR.

Please help with this PROBLEM, I’m lost regarding faxing and scanning capabilities via my pc.

Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.

Since scan is needed, can you try this standalone Scan software:

HP Scan Extended

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

For fax, would suggest that you plug a phone cable into the printer and use the scanner as a good olf fashion fax.

Hope that helps!

Hello Greenturtle,

Just now getting to my emails, Thanks for the reply and the info, unfortunately that did not resolve the problem :~(.

Below is the  popup error dialog window. it's basically the same information I get when trying to install the scanner software and the printer as a wireless device.

Any other ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.

Can you try this:

* *Note that if there are other printers installed, these will need to be reinstalled after this.

Step 1. Uninstall the HP Software from your PC.

Please follow the steps provided to uninstall the printer software in the link: Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows)
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02259020

Also, please follow the steps provided below to completely remove the printer software from printer properties.
Steps to remove printer driver files from Print Server Properties:

Step 2. Open the Print Server Properties dialog window by doing one of the following:
• Click the Start menu and in the search field type 'printui /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click it in the search list.
• Press WINDOWS-R on the keyboard to bring up the Run window, type in 'printui /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click OK.
• From the Start menu or the Start screen:
• Open Devices and Printers.
• Select any printer and then click "Print server properties" at the top of the window.
• Click on the Drivers tab.

Step 3. Backup your registry before making any registry changes, the following resource will show you how:
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03485724

Step 4. Update the registry using the Reg file below
Note: this will change some printer related policies for your PC):

Step 5. Right click the Start menu and select Run.
Type Services.msc and press OK.
Locate and stop the Print Spooler service

Step 6. Browse to c:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers.
Rename W32X86 to W32x86.old
Rename x64 to x64.old
Note: if any of these folders fail to rename reboot your PC and then Continue following the steps starting from Step 5.

Step 7. Restart PC.

Step 8. Finally, reinstall the HP Software.

Hope that helps!

Hello Greenturtle,
Sorry for the delay, been TOOO BUSY to try your suggestion.
However, my Power Supply Unit died a couple weeks later.
Last week, when I got around to installing the replacement PSU, I discovered/recalled, I CREATED a DUPLICATE of my Win7 hdd before I updated to Win10, when it became available a few years ago, and left it in its bay (all features/software worked with the OJ8600 then.
I connected it.
I initiated its PC based software/programs to no avail., including a newly downloaded 'HP Print and Scan Doctor', and got similar errors (in a nutshell the printer can't be found), but it will print from software programs and ping from 'DOS'), browsers can't see it either.
I'm thinking it's the firmware on the printer causing the issue(?).
Last time update/current Status Page shows CLP1CN1829AR.
I saw a ver. CLP1CN1829A with out the 'R' but it was more recent.
Any thoughts?
I don’t want to screw-up whats already working and it's no rush, I'm using alternate/ less convient methods, but hey, I have that lol.
Thanks.

Greenturtle.

My "ACCEPT AS A SOLUTION"  was meant to be an appreciation, not for a solution.

Sorry.

Please see last post.

Thanks.

Hi @MrMajik1

There are many Windows updates that has made changes to the print pipeline.

We'd suggest to uninstall and reinstall (following the instructions above which is a clean slate) .

Thanks.

Hi Greenturtle
I followed all of the instructs in the links you provided, sadly the outcome remained the same.
I printed the Network Config Page and the IP on it was 169.###.#.#........ "hmmmm, that don't sound right", it's been a longtime since I looked at the IPs' on my devices.

Checking all my other devices the IPs' started with 10.#.#.#.

I went thru the printer network setting, saw "Restore Network Defaults" and figured what did I have to lose.

Sure enough, after that I was able to access the EWS and the HP Printer Assitant Software.

Talk about JOY! JOY!! JOY!!!

Only problems I'm having now is accessing the Manage Fax Settings from the HPA, i.e.: fax history etc, which I'd rather live with than the former problem.

Also I can't print, save to PDFs' etc. from MS Edge, I get error "Your printer has experienced an unexpected configuration problem, 0x8007007e",  never seen that issue before, I can print, save etc. from Chrome and  I.E 11 without the error.

Again no problem just sharing.

I do want to thank you for taking the time to followup on that issue,  your suggests were an 'encouragement'.

Thanks a million.
