I downloaded the driver dated 10-9-19 after upgrading to Catalina (Mac OS 10.15). I also tried the workaround suggested on another thread. My machine still won't print or scan. On the computer it sends the document to the print queue but it never seems to connect to the printer and nothing comes out. When I try to scan the machine lists the computer as available but then can't connect to it.
Is this still a driver problem? Will an updated driver be out soon?

Let us try to isolate the issue further. Reboot the devices-
- Turn the printer off, and then wait 10 seconds.
- Disconnect the printer power cord from the printer.
- Turn off the computer or the device you are trying to print from.
- Connect the printer power cord to the printer, and then turn on the printer.
- Disconnect the power cord from your wireless router, and then wait 10 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the router. Wait until Internet service is restored. Internet service is interrupted while the router is off.
- Turn on the computer.
Ensure that the printer is up to date with its firmware and Mac is up to date with its software. If you are unsure you may use the links below to update the printer firmware and Mac software:
Once you have the devices up to date, try to add the printer again using AirPrint drivers(steps in my previous post).
Try printing.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

@AnneMM, Welcome to HP Support Community!
Let us try uninstalling the HP Software and reinstalling the updated version of the driver that was released for Mac OS 15. Refer to the document HP Printers - Uninstalling HP Software (Mac) for help.
Now, download and install the new software using HP Easy Start from here.
Also, try using the HP Smart App. Refer to the document HP Printers - Using the HP Smart App (Mac) for help.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Tried this. Uninstalled using Easy Start. Went through steps to reinstall software. When I get to the page "Add and Verify your device" I get an error message: Cannot configure the device software. Go back to the previous step and try to install the software again. I did go back and install again and get the same error message.

To isolate the issue further, I would like to know the following:
- What is the distance between the router and the printer?
- Is there any antivirus software installed on your computer?
- Could you perform a ping test using the Mac Network Utility and let me know the results?
Use the printer IP address to perform a ping test, the printer IP can be located by selecting the wireless icon on the printer display.
Also, try adding the printer using AirPrint drivers. Here is how you can do it-
Remove and add the printer
Click the Apple menu, and then select System Preferences.
Depending on your operating system version, click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners.
Click the name of your printer, click the Minus sign, and then delete the printer.
Click the Plus sign, and then click Add Printer or Scanner.
Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select AirPrint
Click Add to add the printer to the list.
Try to print.
Keep me posted for further assistance.

The router is about 20 feet from the printer.
There is no antivirus software currently running on the computer.
Ping test:

When I do the AirPrint set up it gets to "setting up the device" and sits there for a while, then I get an error message: An error occurred while trying to add the selected device. Unable to communicate with the printer at this time.
When I try to set it up from any of the options it "sees" the printer on the network but can't communicate from the computer to the printer to print or from the printer to the computer to scan.

Seems I had to update again to Mac OS 15, which I did. The printer said its software was up to date.
I did all of the steps and now it will print and it will scan from HP smart. So I'm functional.
It still won't let me "Scan to computer" from the printer. I tried to open HP Utility to tell it to allow scan to computer, I get an error message: Some HP Utility components were not found. Please reinstall the software that came with your device.
I re-downloaded and reinstalled the 10-9 driver from the website and it still doesn't work. I can live without that functionality but it was convenient to have it.

Apple Image capture doesn't seem to "see" my printer/scanner. It does not come up as an option.
And that doesn't fix the "scan to computer" on the printer issue. I can scan with HP smart so don't need another workaround to scan from computer.
