HP PageWide Pro 477dw
macOS 10.14 Mojave

Product: HP PageWide Pro 477dw

Operating System: Mac OS Mojave 10.14.2

I have a HP PageWide Pro 477dw and on the print menu there is no Black&White option to print. I am able to print documents black and white if

1. I click Show Details

2. Under Paper Type/Quality, click Color Options, and then select Grayscale.

But my issue is, I don't see the Black&White option right away.

Here is a screenshot of what it looks like:

Remember, I've found these pictures on this forum. My printer is HP PageWide Pro 477dw but I have the exact same issue as shown in these pictures. I've found several thread on this forum with people having the same issues. I want to clarify that I can indeed print my documents black and white but not with this check box shown in the second picture. On another Mac, this Black&White option appears but not on my MacBook.

I have already reset my Mac printing system and re-added the printer after restarting the system. I've already read through several threads here such as these:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printers-Archive-Read-Only/How-to-use-Black-catridges-only-when-color-...

But none of these threads have a solution to my problem. The only solution I've found is the workaround to print black and white I described in the beginning of this post.

I'd appreciate any further help. Thanks in advance!

I discovered that when I add the printer via its IP address (System Preferences --> Printers & Scanners --> click on "IP" instead of "Default"), the Black & White option box reappears when I attempt to print.  There are various ways to find your printer's IP address, one is by printing a Network Summary:   on my printer's LCD I select Setup --> Reports --> Network Summary.

Also - shame on HP for 1) not addressing this issue, and 2) not directly answering your, and many others', question.  I see online that this is an issue for many people, yet HP always directs people to some convoluted adjustment of settings (note:  those setting options didn't even exist in my setups).  HP:  either answer the question of how to restore the little Black & White checkbox, or admit that you don't know how to fix it.  Stop misdirecting people and simply answer the question truthfully.
