Has anyone solved this problem yet? (The last post I saw and added a "Me Too" for was https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Wireless-Networking-Internet/Printer-no-longer-accepts-encrypt... )
I still can't print from Android. It seems to be tied to "Encrypted Printing."
I would happily turn off Encrypted printing if it solved my problem. If only I could find out how to do that. Any documentation I've found to disable encrypted printing does not take me to the settings to make that change.
Any advice you can suggest would be greatly appreciated.
The next thing I'm going to try is to connect a 3rd party network print server, connected to the printer's USB port. I'm hoping the printer assumes it is using a local USB connection and doesn't try to use encryption or authentication.

Hi @DaveIowa,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To disable encrypted printing on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw, follow these steps.
Access the printer's Web Interface:
- Open a web browser and enter the printer's IP address in the address bar. You can find the IP address by printing a configuration page from the printer's control panel. This page will list the IP under the network settings.
Log in to the Admin Interface:
- You'll be prompted for the admin credentials. If you haven't changed these, the default username is often admin, and the default password might be 123456 or admin. Refer to the printer’s manual if you need to confirm the login credentials.
Navigate to Security Settings:
- Once logged in, go to the Security section from the menu options.
Disable Encrypted Printing (IPPS):
- In the Security menu, look for settings related to Encrypted Printing, IPP over SSL (IPPS), or Secure Printing. The exact wording might vary, but you're looking for a setting that governs encryption or secure print methods.
- Turn off any setting that enables IPPS or encrypted printing. This will disable encryption and allow standard printing protocols.
Save and Test:
- After disabling encrypted printing, save the changes and try printing again from your Android device.
If you're unable to find the exact option, I recommend checking the printer’s HP Jetdirect Embedded Web Server documentation for more detailed instructions on disabling encrypted printing or contacting HP support for guidance on the specific firmware version.
If you decide to connect a third-party network print server, it might bypass the encrypted printing settings by providing a direct connection to the printer, but you'll need to ensure the print server supports your printer’s protocol and features.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
