Hi, I try to connect my M28w WiFi printer to a new WiFi network.
I followed multiple times the steps listed here:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1736500-1626554-16
1. Press wireless button for 20seconds until Power and Warning lights blink. Then the printer resets - OK
2. Blue LED "WiFi" blinks after reset
3. Open HP Smart on my Android phone. I'm connected to home WiFi network, and I also see Printer's WiFi network is available.
4. "Add printer" in the app.
5. HP Smart cannot find the printer, so it suggests alternate method of finding it. I click "Find printer" and it shows the "HP-Setup<B7>M28LaserJet" temporary hotspot created by the printer. I choose this hotspot and HP Smart connects to the printer.
6. HP Smart connected to the printer over the temporary hotspot. I click "Continue" to configure the printer to use Home WiFi network.
7. After searching for networks, HP Smart shows an empty list of WiFi networks.
8. I cannot finish the printer configuration and cannot print anything.
Can you please help me? I moved the printer very close to the router, ensure that the network is on. But still network is not visible in the HP Smart App.
HP Smart 9.4.1.3
Android 12

Hi,
Could you please clarify your router brand and model and wireless SSID?
From your description I wouldn't be surprised if your home network broadcast a 5GHz wireless network only, whilst the printer only support a 2.4GHz wireless operations.

Hi Shlomi, thank you for taking a look!
My router is Huawei HG8245X6. It has enabled both 2.4GHz and 5GHz WLAN. The networks both share the same SSID. SSID is "M&F"
Should I split them, and try to connect the printer specifically to the 2.4GHz network?

Hi @Filip0 ,
Please start with changing your SSID to deny any possibility that the issue being caused from the non standard character (&), if that doesn’t work please try splitting the SSID fir the different bands and check fir any change.

Hi!
I have
- changed the SSID to only include normal ASCII letters
- split the 2.4 network as a separate SSID
- disabled ax (WiFi 6) - changed from 802.11b/g/n/ax to b/g/n
Still printer is stuck and cannot see any WiFi networks.

Thanks for clarifying @Filip0,
May there any chance that the printer is also connected with a USB cable to a PC?
If so, try unplugging ir, restart the printer and restore its network settings and try again, as a USB connection may prevent auto wireless connection.
Other than this, let’s try connecting to the HP setup SSID and browse to http://192.168.223.1/
select Networking > Wireless Configuration and try connecting the printer from this screen , once connected reconnect to your home wifi and try printing.
Please let me know if that may help,
Shlomi
