Received message on my OfficeJet Pro 9018 Panel stating "The Printer update could not be downloaded." When press OK on the panel it cycles the printer and it comes right back to this message. It sits on 00% and then the panel goes back to the same message. Press Retry and it cycles back to the same “update could not be downloaded” message again. In between cycles the unit will print documents and then retries the cycle pattern. My computer is a Mac desktop running macOSX Ventura 13.5 (not listed on your dropdown menu above). My HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 is connected to my Mac desktop computer wirelessly.
QUESTIONS:
1) Is the update supposed to come directly to the printer? If YES, why isn't it and how do I fix it?
2) Is the update supposed to the computer and then wirelessly to the printer? If YES, why isn't it and how do I fix it?
3) What are the specific steps that need to be taken to get the update to download and install on my HP printer?

I am sorry to have to say that the solution I thought I found to the "update not downloading" issue DID NOT WORK. Within a short time after declaring victory, the Printer began the same circular pattern initially experienced. So, a different solution is necessary. If anyone has that information, especially someone from inside HP, PLEASE let us know.
Please consider this ISSUE still OPEN.

I have the same issue. I have checked, and my printer has the current firmware version, according to the HP Smart app.
If I "cancel" the download (or check "OK" when it tells me it us unable to download the update), I can print but it then goes back to the cycle and I'm constantly repeating the process.
The printer is out of warranty, so it is hard to get information, and there have been no responses that I can find through the support community. It is frustrating, because I really like this printer; but I can't keep repeating this process.

I'm having the same exact problem.
This has to be an issue on their end. This is the first time, I've ever had an issue with this printer.
At this point, I'd like to just disable automatic updates, but I can't even do that. I logged into the printer IP and those options are disabled.

This is what I did to be able turn off auto-updates and resume printing.
So far so good.
I'll give in a couple months and manually try the firmware update again to see if it's still buggy.

The same download error started for me last night. Until HP fixes the problem they caused you can disable firmware updates without having to restore factory defaults.
In a web browser, HTTP: to the printers IP address (Example https://192.168.1.100) Your address will be different.
This takes you to the printers Embedded Web Server. Go to settings at the top, then on the left side expand Security, Administrator Settings. Then at the bottom of Printer Features on the right, uncheck the "All Firmware Updates" and click Apply.

Update: I believe I fixed this issue. Go to settings, set up, printer maintenance and hit restore to original default. Once the printer does its thing then go back to printer maintenance and update options. Make sure it is off. Good luck.
