Hi,
I'm using a HP OffceJet Pro 8134e printer which was connected via network cable and working fine.
Since the latest firmware update, which was applied on March, 7th 2025 automatically, LAN and WLAN is no longer working.
I've already opened a ticket with HP support, they confirmed it's a known bug due to the latest firmware. They told me to be patient until they provide a fix.
I've tried a downgrade of the firmware to a previous version but this is failing.
I've tried to use the USB port on the printer which is not working, which means I have a printer which is not working.
Anybody else having this issue or an idea why the USB port is not working?
Thanks and kind Regards
Claus

Almost the same thing--OfficeJet Pro 8139e but at least the wifi is working on mine
My Ethernet stopped working with after the update. I can live with it for now but I insist on wired printing for stability. HP support has no solutions for me at this time.

Exact same issue. Thx for posting this and making them aware of it.
It's unbelievable that they release a firmware that causes this. No way to downgrade either.
At least they are aware of it and will fix it. Let's see how long I have a useless printer.

Hi @C_D_R,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I understand how frustrating this can be. Rest assured, this issue is being looked into, and a firmware update will likely be released to resolve it.
Meanwhile, we'll try a few workarounds to help you get back up and running.
Try a Factory Reset
Refer to the steps on this link to restore factory defaults.
Workaround: Connect via Direct Wi-Fi (HP Wireless Direct)
Even if LAN/Wi-Fi is broken, HP Wireless Direct might still work:
- On the printer panel, go to Wi-Fi settings.
- Enable HP Wireless Direct (different from regular Wi-Fi).
- On your computer, connect to the printer's direct Wi-Fi signal.
- Try printing using this connection.
USB Port Issue – Try a Different Cable & Driver Reset
If the USB port isn’t working:
- Try a different USB cable & port on your computer.
- Manually reinstall HP drivers:
- Open Device Manager (Windows key + X > Device Manager).
- Find your HP printer under "Printers" or "USB devices."
- Right-click and uninstall the device.
- Disconnect the USB, restart your PC, then reconnect the printer.a
Use HP Smart App for Temporary Connection
Sometimes, HP Smart App can force a connection even when other methods fail:
- Install HP Smart App.
- Try re-adding your printer through the app.
- Check if USB or Wi-Fi Direct works through the app.
We will definitely address this, and I appreciate your patience. Let me know if you need any further assistance!

Hi @PC775,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I came across the thread you shared regarding the OfficeJet Pro 8130e series printers. Are you currently experiencing any issues with your device after the firmware update? If so, could you provide more details about the problem you're facing? I'd be happy to assist you.
We're all ears!

The question was not directed at me but I have an answer anyways.
I performed a firmware update (details below). Not sure if you are referring to this update in particular and if it even addresses the issue in question.
Name: HP OfficeJet 8120-8120e-8130-8130e/HP OfficeJet Pro 8120-8120e-8130-8130e All-in-one Printer series Firmware Update
Version: 6.23.3.71
Release date: Mar 25, 2025
I performed the firmware update successfully BUT it did not solve the issue.
On a side note: I got this during the update process (via USB as well as via the HP Firmware updater utility) [at 72%]. But in the end it said update successfully.
Update running:
Error message:
Firmware update performed successfully (this was also mentioned in the HP firmware updater utility):
Best.

Same issue with a brand new OfficeJet Pro 8125e.
Ethernet network connectivity was fine with DHCP successfully assigning an address, until I foolishly agreed to let the printer autoupdate its firmware, which it promptly did with the result that, despite the Ethernet connection being fully operational (since I didn't alter anything), the firmware fails to communicate with the network altogether. Assigning a static IP doesn't help either.
You'd think that, with their resources, HP would have a test suite to check basic functionality and regression with each firmware upgrade, but apparently, this is not the case. This is all the more vexing that, while WiFi does work, the whole point of using Ethernet is that my WiFi router is too far away to have a stable connection where my printer is located.
Now, considering that HP is clearly not bothered one bit by MAJOR FAILURES of their appalling firmware and "Smart" software application (that too has seen a major regression where it is no longer able to scan documents, an issue that multiple users have been reporting to HP for about a year and which I have also confirmed... whereas the Microsoft Windows Scan App does work without issue), and since this is probably the only means of pressure consumers have to get HP to actually fix their software, I hereby vow (and encourage others to do so) to NEVER EVER subscribe to HP's Instant Ink subscription on account of the blatant inability of HP to deliver software and firmware where the basic functionality does work, whereas, had the firmware and software been produced to the standard one expects from a company like HP, I would probably have joined that program.
I can only hope that others, who face issues with HP software, that should never ever have make it to consumers were HP to exert a modicum of quality control, will publicly take the same vow, until HP understand that breaking functionality does in fact have a direct impact on their revenue line.

Hi @pbatard
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It looks like the latest firmware update has caused Ethernet connectivity issues for HP OfficeJet Pro 8134e and 8125e printers.
Possible Workarounds
Try a Factory Reset
- Some users have had success restoring Ethernet functionality by resetting the printer to factory defaults.
- You can find reset instructions here.
Use HP Wireless Direct (Temporary Fix)
- If Ethernet is completely broken, HP Wireless Direct might allow you to print without relying on Wi-Fi or a router.
Check for Upcoming Firmware Fixes
- HP has confirmed they are working on a firmware update to resolve this issue.
- Keep an eye on HP’s support page for updates.
