HP DeskJet 2723e All-in-One Printer

Hi.  I've changed to a new wifi network and now the printer will not connect. My computer is connected.   If I use the original mobile wifi network, the printer connects as before..

I've tried virtual assistant's recommendations to no avail.

Connect Printer to New Wi-Fi Network

There are a few ways to do this:

Option 1: Set up using the HP Smart app

You can use the HP Smart app to set up the printer on your wireless network.

The HP Smart app is supported on iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac devices.

Make sure your computer or mobile device is connected to your wireless network, and you know the Wi-Fi password of your wireless network.

  • If you are using an iOS or Android mobile device, make sure that Bluetooth is turned on. (HP Smart uses Bluetooth to make the setup process faster and easier on iOS and Android mobile devices.)

NOTE: HP Smart uses Bluetooth for printer setup only. Printing using Bluetooth is not supported.

  • Make sure the printer is in the Auto Wireless Connect (AWC) setup mode. When the printer enters AWC setup mode, the light next to the Wireless button blinks blue and the Signal Bars cycle on the display. If this is the first time you set up the printer, the printer is ready for setup after the printer is powered on. It keeps searching for the HP Smart app to connect within two hours and then stops searching.
  • To put the printer back into AWC setup mode, press the Wireless button and the Cancel button together for 3 seconds. When the light next to the Wireless button blinks blue, continue setup.

Open the HP Smart app and then do one of the following:

  • iOS/Android: On the home screen, tap the Plus icon and then select the printer. If the printer is not in the list, tap Add Printer. Follow the onscreen instructions to add the printer to your network.
  • Windows/macOS: On the home screen, click or tap the Plus icon and then select the printer. If the printer is not found, click or tap Set up a new printer. Follow the onscreen instructions to add the printer to your network.

Option 2: Using the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) Button

  1. Press and hold the Wireless button for at least three seconds to start WPS Push Button method.
  2. Press the WPS button on your router.

NOTE: The product begins a timer for approximately two minutes while a wireless connection is established. If the printer connects successfully, the light next to the Wireless button glows steady blue

@Videoace1, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Looks like your printer's been a little too cozy with the old Wi-Fi network, huh? 😜 No worries, though—time to give it a fresh start and get it happily connecting to your new network. Here’s how we can make that happen!

Verify Printer’s Current Network Settings

Check Printer’s Network Status:

  • On the printer's display screen (if it has one), navigate to the network settings or Wi-Fi settings menu.
  • Check if it’s still connected to the old Wi-Fi network. If so, you need to disconnect from it.

Connect Printer to New Wi-Fi Network

There are a few ways to do this:

Option 1: Set up using the HP Smart app

You can use the HP Smart app to set up the printer on your wireless network.

The HP Smart app is supported on iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac devices.

Option 3: Using Printer’s Software on Your Computer

To connect your printer using HP printer software (Windows)

If you have not installed the HP printer software on your computer. Visit 123.hp.com to download and install the printer software.

  1. Open the printer software.
  2. In the printer software, click Tools.
  3. Click Device Setup & Software.
  4. Click Connect a new device and then follow the onscreen instructions.

After the printer connects successfully, the light next to the Wireless button glows steady blue.

Reinstall Printer on Computer

Once your printer is connected to the new Wi-Fi network, follow these steps to make sure your computer recognizes it:

Go to Printer Settings on Your Computer:

  • On Windows: Open the Start menu, go to "Settings" > "Devices" > "Printers & Scanners". Click "Add a Printer or Scanner."
  • On Mac: Go to the Apple Menu > "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners". Click the "+" to add a printer.

Select Your Printer:

  • Your printer should appear in the list of available devices. Select it and click "Add" (or follow any prompts to complete the setup).
  • If it doesn’t show up, ensure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.

Restart Router, Printer, and Computer

Sometimes, a fresh start helps clear out connectivity issues:

  1. Power off your router, printer, and computer.
  2. Wait for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Power on the router first, then the printer, and finally, your computer.
  4. Try printing again.

Update Printer Firmware

Make sure your printer firmware is up to date. Outdated firmware can cause connectivity issues.

  1. Check the HP Support website or printer software for the latest updates.
  2. Follow the instructions to update the firmware.

Check Router Settings

If your printer still isn’t connecting:

  1. Check if the router has a dual-band Wi-Fi setup (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz). Some printers only support 2.4 GHz.
  2. If your router has both bands enabled, try connecting your printer to the 2.4 GHz network.
  3. Make sure that SSID Broadcasting is enabled and that your new Wi-Fi network is not hidden.

Reset Printer’s Network Settings

If the above steps don’t work, consider resetting the printer’s network settings to default and then trying the setup process again:

  • Use the Cancel and Wireless buttons to restore Wi-Fi setup mode.
  • Press the Cancel button to ready the printer.
  • Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button at the same time for five seconds until the Power button starts blinking.

Note:

  • Your control panel might look different than the following example, but the steps are the same.

Button presses to restore wireless settings

  • Wait until the blue Wireless button light blinks continuously.
  • Within two hours, return to the app or software to find and add your printer and complete the setup.

Printer’s IP Address

Sometimes the printer may be connecting, but the computer can't find it due to IP address issues.

To find out the printer IP address,

  • press the Wireless button and the Information button at the same time to print the Network Configuration Report.
Make sure the printer IP address is valid. The printer IP address should have the similar format as the
router IP address. For example, the router IP address might be 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1 and the printer IP
    address is 192.168.0.5 or 10.0.0.5.
  • f the printer IP address is similar to 169.254.XXX.XXX or 0.0.0.0, it is not connected to the network.

Additional Tips:

  • Make sure that your firewall or antivirus software is not blocking the printer from connecting.
  • If your router has security settings like MAC address filtering, ensure that the printer’s MAC address is allowed.

And voilà! In no time, your printer will be back to its reliable self, happily printing away on the new network. 🎉 Need an extra hand or just want to share your success story? I’m all ears (and ready to assist)! 🎧

Hi. Thanks for your reply. I tried and tried with printer settings to no avail. Finally I did a re-set on the HP Smart app and bingo, the printer connected immediately. A pity HP Smart doesn't suggest that.

@Videoace1,

I'm so glad to hear it worked out in the end! 🙌

It’s always a bit frustrating when things don’t go as planned, especially with tech, but it's such a relief when you find the solution, right? 😊

Honestly, it would have been nice if HP Smart had suggested that reset earlier—would've saved you so much time! 😅 At least it’s all smooth sailing now! 🥳
