Hi Kelly,

Unfortunately, there may be a delay in getting the message out to our call agents that they need to replace noisy power supplies. You may have called prior to us getting the message out to them but i have been assured they are aware of the issue now. I will give this feedback about not getting instructions on how to replace the power supply though. Sorry about that!

Yes, the noise is the only problem. Otherwise, I really like the printer. Is the updated power supply suppose to completely eliminate the noise? Because the replacement seemed to be better, but it sounds like it is getting a little louder. The original one is a Rev C. I think the new one was Rev D. (Can't remen for sure.) is the new one bad?

Ok if you have a chance can you give me the S/N of the new power supply and also the rev. ? ( the s/n should end with either an A4 or C0). The new power supplies should not have any whining or whistling sound when it goes into sleep mode although you may hear a buzz if you put your ear up to the printer.

Hi Jessica,
The S/N is [Moderator Edited Serial Number] Rev. D. There is definitely a whistling noise.
The old power supply S/N also ends in C0. It is [Moderator edited Serial Number]
What's the next step?
Thanks.

There is definitely a delay in getting the message out to your call agents that they need to replace noisy power supplies. I've been on the phone for over an hour now (mainly on hold) with representatives that "have never heard of any issues" and insist on walking me through troubleshooting tests like making useless photo copies when this has nothing to do with it being noisy in standby. Still on hold..............

I experienced the same noise as others for the Envy 7640 printer and received a replacement printer. Unfortunately the replacement printer had the same power adapter the version Rev:C, which is now built into the printer. The technical service department is only allowed to send replacement printers, not parts, and the parts department will sell a part but has no way to provide a Rev:D replacement. How do I obtain this "improved" power adapter? Is there no hope for this otherwise fine printer?

Hello,

I also purchased the HP Envy 7640 this weekend and also have the noise issue.  Can you please send me a replacement PS?

thank you

I called HP Support today for the same annoying high pitched noise and the gentleman had never heard of this problem. He took me through all of the normal trouble shooting steps.  He now wants me to move the printer to another room to try a different outlet.  Does nobody from HP read these boards and let the engineers know about a problem of this size?  I will have to call them tomorrow and tell them what I have learned from these boards.

I had my entire printer replaced for the same reason back in April. Save some time and simply tell them (demand it) that you want a replacement unit and to send you an RMA sticker with the new unit so you can return the old one. The new units have been corrected to address this problem. Very frustrating that HP NEVER communicates across departments. I went through the same BS with all the debugging and it didn't fix a thing. They should know by now that it won't fix anything unless you replace the printer. Good luck, my replacement unit worked fine. No more f'ing noise!
