How do I get the HP Instant Ink free trial?
When you buy a new printer and set it up either at 123.hp.com or using the HP Smart app and you sign up for a paid plan you are offered a free trial of Instant Ink. However, if you sign up for the 15 page free plan you are not offered the free trial since you are already on a free plan.
The number of free months depends on the offer at the time and the country of enrollment. You must take advantage of this offer within 7 days. There is no special code and the free months are automatically applied to your account. After 7 days, the free trial offer expires.
During the free trial you can print up to 300 pages per month regardless of the plan you pick (50,100,300). If you pick the 500 or 700 page plan your free trial will be for 500 or 700 pages depending on the plan you chose.
To confirm that you received your free months, check the message on the Confirmation page just before you enroll, or sign into your account page at Instantink.com and find the free months under My Account > My Plan. Free trial months are not offered when you sign up at Instantink.com – only at 123.hp.com and the HP Smart app. Remember to take advantage of the free trial offer while you are setting up your printer!

Hey there! @ThomasJ55,
Please tap the HP ePrint icon and select Settings, then tap Remove Web Services and confirm.
Now open the HP ePrint menu and follow the steps to reactivate the service, a new information sheet with a valid claim code will be printed within several minutes.
You might not be able to use the same email address set for the eprint in the past. You have to create a new one account.
If you still have issues try the steps recommended below.
First, you have to disable the web services if it is enabled turn the printer off once it is disabled, restart the printer and enable web services.
Once you enable web services the printer will print a new claim code.
Using this claim code you can create a new eprint address for your printer. This should resolve your issue.
If you are not sure how to turn on web services try the steps recommended below.
Turn on Web Services
1. Turning on Web Services from the printer control panel or the Embedded Web Server (EWS) allows your printer to communicate securely over the Internet with HP Connected printing services, such as HP ePrint. Read the section that matches your printer control panel type for steps to turn on Web Services.
Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to turn on Web Services for printers that do not have a touchscreen or LCD display.
Make sure your printer firmware is up-to-date.
To update the printer firmware, go to HP Customer Support. Type your printer model, and then search for the document on updating the firmware for your printer.
2. Print a Network Configuration or self-test page to obtain the printer IP address needed to view the EWS webpage.
For instructions on printing a Network Configuration or self-test page, go to HP Customer Support. Type your printer model, and then search for the document to "print a configuration page" or "print a self-test page," depending on your printer model.
3. Find the printer IP address on the Network Configuration or self-test page.
On your computer, open an Internet browser.
5.Type the printer IP address in the browser address bar, and then press Enter.
note:
Make sure to type the IP address into the Internet browser's address box. If typed into a toolbar search box or search engine, the Embedded Web Server (EWS) does not open.
6.If a website security certificate displays in the Internet browser, click Continue.
The EWS information page for the printer opens, which confirms that the printer is on the same network as the computer.
7.On the EWS webpage, click the tab.
•, your printer does not support HP ePrint.
•, click Continue, Turn On, or Enable, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
, Web Services is already on.
Click Print Info Page under, and then continue to the next step.
Refer this article to know more information about Getting the Printer Claim Code.
Also, refer this article to know more information about Updating your HP Connected Account Information.
Hope this answers your query!
Have a great day ahead! 🙂

Interesting ! I had a high pressure sales pitch today from a large outlet re buying the HP ENVY 5010. He was stressing the benefits of the 12 month Instant Ink free trial - and in particular that I would not be locked into any agreement should I not wish to continue after the 12 month trial . It sounded too good to be true so I did NOT go ahead until I checked out on this site. My reticence is simply because I do not know how much I will really use this printer so dont want to lock myself into something that I may not need in a few months time. So question is - would I be locked into a contract after the 12 month free trial expires.?

You have an option to cancel your Instant Ink plan once you have exhausted the 12 free months. Refer to this document for more information - HP Instant Ink - Cancelling Your HP Instant Ink Service
Once the Instant Ink plan is cancelled, you can use the regular ink cartridges instead of the Instant Ink cartridges.
Hope this helps! let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi, you are the reason Instant Ink provides a free trial! Because Instant Ink is a new way of printing we want customers to try the service first so they see how it works and we provide you with an account page so you can see the printing you do on a monthly basis and at the end of the free trial (which is good for 300 pages per billing cycle) you can choose what plan best works for you if you would like to continue with the service. If you do not like the service you can cancel anytime during the free trial or after and go back to buying standard HP cartridges.
You do need to sign up for the free trial within 7 days of setting up your printer so let me know if you have any issues with this.
Happy printing!

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,
Normally, the Instant Ink program would auto-detect the low ink and ship a replacement cartridge, only when the printer isn't constantly connected to the internet or there are connection issues, is when that doesn't happen.
Your HP Instant Ink account page contains the data on past deliveries and estimated shipments.
It also helps you understand what state your cartridges are in based on HP's data,
Any issues will be shown with its solution using a step by step approach, to make it easier for you!
Do you see a tracking# generated? You'll find the shipment details on your Instant Ink account Page. Once you login, click on the "Ink Shipment" located on the left side of the screen.
Please send us a private message with your Instant Ink account details or you may also respond to the private message I've sent out and I'll help you out, accordingly.
Check next to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it. Click here for more details on how to access the private messages on HP Forums.

Hi!
I'm from Finland i got 7 months trial and i registered trough hp smart app and it did say 7 month free trial ok. Then it asked subsription choice and i wanted to play safe and picked up free month with 15 pages per month and check it out that its get registered and it did..ok. Then i went my instant ink page logged in and i can't find anywhere any mention that i have 7 months free trial. I go to my account page and then i pick my plan and there is still any mention of any kind of 7 month trial?? How i get it? This is very frustrating..afraid to do any changes to plan because when i try to pick other plan it still not say that i got any free trial so i don't wanna change it from free 15 pages plan before i'm sure about the 7 months free trial to get activated somehow.

When you buy a new printer and set it up either at 123.hp.com or using the HP Smart app and you sign up for a paid plan you are offered a free trial of Instant Ink. However, if you sign up for the 15 page free plan you are not offered the free trial since you are already on a free plan. The plan you are on gives you 15 pages for free every month. If you would like to take advantage of the 7 month free trial for up to 300 pages a month you will need to sign into your account page at Instantink.com, go to My Account, My Plan and change your plan to a paid 50, 100 or 300 plan. Once you do this I can provide you the 7 months free.
I'll send you a private message to reply with your email.
Hope that helps.

Hi Jill,
I signed up for a Instant Ink 100 page plan the moment I setup my new printer.
i understand that the instant ink plan only starts the moment I installed the first set of cartridges that arrived in my mailbox.
now I installed the first set of cartridges and printed out 2 pages.
i signed into my HP account and checked under ‘Plans’ and I don’t see the 2 months free trial.
Am i directly being charged for my first month of usage?

What is the price of the INK?????????????????????

Hi,
If you are asking about Instant Ink it is a service in which you pay for the number of pages you print vs. an ink cartridge. The service will monitor your printing an send you ink cartridges and you pay for the pages you print. In the US we have the following for pricing:
15 page free plan
50 page plan for $2.99/m + tax
100 page plan for $4.99/m + tax
300 page plan for $9.99/m + tax
500 page plan for $14.99/m + tax
If you go over your plan pages in a month then there is an additional fee. The Instantink.com webpage will give you updated details on how the service works.
The Instant Ink cartridges will only work while you are enrolled in the service. If you cancel the service any cartridges you have on hand will not work and you would then need to go buy cartridges from the store.
I hope this helps.

I'm actually interested in signing up for Instant Ink when I found out there is a free plan (15 pages per month). When I first heard about the program I wasn't interested in a monthly fee, but if there's a limited free option I'd be willing to give that a try. However, when I try to sign up and register for it, I don't have the option. It picks the $2.99 subscription one, and when I click edit that's the lowest plan available. My printer model is an Office Jet 9010, and I've never signed up for instant ink before.

The 15 page free plan is not available for the OJ 9010 printer which is why you are not seeing it as an option.
If you would like to try Instant Ink for a couple months you can sign up for the $2.99 plan and then I can provide you 2 months of free service up to 50 pages per month so you can try it.
I'll send you a private message with the information I need to apply the free months.
Thanks,
JillSa

Hi Jillsa,
I am also having the same problem. My new printer includes 4 months of free ink. But I did not see it after I set up the account. I guess it was because I selected the free plan with 15 pages per month. Will I get the 4 months if I change to paid plans? Thank you.

So sorry for delay in replying. Yes, if you signed up for the 15 page plan you already get it for free. If you want the 4 free month offer you would need to upgrade to a paid plan and then 4 free months will be added to your account, however, the first month started based on the time you inserted your Instant Ink pens so you would need to upgrade before the end of your first billing cycle to get the full 4 months free. If you are not able to see the 4 free months on your account page when you login at Instantink.com please respond back and I can help you.

Hi!
I bought an HP OfficeJet 3830 after black friday and I set it up for instant ink the last week of December (after Christmas). My printer came with a card that said I should get 2 free months of any instant ink subscription, but when I set up, nothing indicated that. I wanted to get it set up before the 12/31/19 deadline for that offer, so I went ahead and completed set up since I wasn't getting a response from HP support. I found this page and tried to post for assistance, but either my comment wasn't approved or didn't actually post.
Is there a possibility of getting those 2 free months added to my account so I can trial this system before really subscribing? I was able to find a referral code online to get me 1 free month, but I'd like to have the other 2 free months that were promised with my purchase. HP, Please help!
Thanks!!

I would STRONGLY recommend never using the HP Instant Ink service. It is a compete rip off. I bought a hP printer and got 2 months and decided to stop using it as I realised the economic did not work - it was cheaper to buy your own ink and paper by about 7%. I cancelled the service before the end of contract and STOPPED using the ink. I returned the cartridges and the paper count still increased and it would not stop. So in effect HP were charging em for me using my own ink. Now at end of contract they have charged me as I used more than was in my pan, for my own ink and paper !!!! They are not a printer company any more they are a rip off merchant - so my advice - be very careful before you decide to sign up and get sucked into their plans - it is not as good as it seems.

Once you cancel your plan you have until the end of your billing cycle to use the HP Instant Ink cartridges. If you chose to pull them out prior to the end and use ALL new cartridges then you should only get charged up to the amount of pages or up to your monthly fee based on the plan you were on. The only way you would be charged more over your plan is if you used in even 1 HP Instant ink cartridge in your printer and printed over your plan amount. If you were using all 4 new non-HP Instant Ink cartridges and those cartridges caused you to go over your monthly plan you should not be charged for those pages.
If you think there is a billing issue based on how I described this above then you contact HP support to review.
Hope that helps.

That is exactly what has happened and yesterday I spoke at length to HP support in Ireland and they were not interested. TSo I ahve been charged to use my own ink and I just think that is not correct - I stopped using the supplied cartridges on 14th March as I was getting close to the monthly limit BUT I WAS BELOW THE CHARGE LIMIT - I had given notice to cancel on 8th March and between 14th March and 18th March the page count still went up and on 18th My credit card was charged for usage between 14th and 18th March ----- but as I say HP support say that is the way it works and so told me that they coudl not help and to go away and were pretty awful

Being honest about it I would not be concerned as the HP instant ink programme is not all it is suggested. Start with the economics. I am in the UK and I worked out that it costs 4p per print using HP instant ink programme as long as you are under the monthly allowance and that jumps to 5p if you go over. I looked at buying ink myself and it cost 4.5P per sheet and so I would really never sign up for the subscription service. But it depends on usage and how likely you are to go over the allowance.
Don't be sucked into the great offer - as in the end HP are making far more money from the subscription service than selling printers - subscription services work that way in my experience

Hi Jill,
I received my HP printer yesterday and signed up for Instant Ink, but like a lot of people seem to have got confused and signed up for the 15 pages/FREE plan instead of a higher cost one, and therefore have not been made eligible for the 2 month Free trial. Could I please swap to another plan so I can have a trial period? I would really like this period to gauge just exactly how many pages I use up in a normal month, on average.
Your help would be greatly appreciated, as I'm not sure whether any trial period will be eligible 7 days after I've enrolled/received the printer.
Many thanks,
Miranda

Hiya, I have an existing HP Instant Ink account that I have had for a while (I am not currently in a free trail period) I am looking to update my printer and have found one that has a 5 month free trail with it. Can this be activated on my account when I set up the printer?
Also you use to be able to update to eligible printers directly via your account - you could view printers and special offers, can you not do that anymore?
Thanks Kelly

I'll send you a private message but make sure you signed up for a paid plan (50, 100, 300) and not the free plan (15 pages). Since the 15 page plan is free there is no free trial. If you want the free trial just upgrade to a paid plan. If not, please see my private message.
Thanks,

Hi, if you purchase a new eligible printer and replace it with your existing printer then you should get the free month trial.
If you use the HP smartapp there will be a question while you are setting up if this is a "new printer or replacement printer" so make sure you say it's a replacement printer and it will replace your Instant Ink account with this printer. You may have to choose a plan but follow the process and look for that question.
If you do replace the printer directly from your account page it looks like that should work also but using the HP smartapp or 123.hp.com is the best way to get the free trial.
Hope that helps.

Does the free trial period start when you install your first Instant Ink cartridge?
Mine has not. I signed up for the 300 pages per month in december and applied my 4 free months. I used up my free cartridges that came with the printer first, and then inserted my first instant ink cartridge in March, but you are now going to charge me for April as it appears I have used my 4 free months up. Surely the free months should start from March?

The free trial period starts when the service starts since you are doing a free trial on the service not the ink. The free trial is to give you an idea of how many pages you print on a monthly basis to help you choose the best plan for your needs. It also shows you how ink will be shipped and available before you run out.
Sorry if this was not clear. Your 4 free months would have been the Dec-Mar and sounds like your charges will start in April.
Hope that makes sense and hope you like the service.
