- 4520 won't print on glossy A4 photo paper

My 4520 series inkjet won't print on A4 glossy paper. It seems like too much of the paper feeds into the machine at the start of printing and most times I only get half a photo printed. I load the paper carefully and adjust the side clips to hold the paper snugly in place but when I attempt to print it's a bit 'hit and miss'. Sometimes it prints perfectly and other times only half of the photo is printed. It's wasting so much glossy photo paper! My laptop operates on Windows 10 (not sure if it's 32 or 64 bit tho)

Hi @John_London,
Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I read your post about the photo printing issue on your Envy printer. I am happy to look into this issue for you!
While feeding the photo paper to the input tray, you need to keep “Glossy” or print side facing down. Also, it is important to change the print settings before you print a photo. Check the settings mentioned below:
If you are running Windows OS, then follow the steps below:
Open the picture using “Windows Photo Viewer” (You can right-click on the image and go to “Open with” to select the windows photo viewer app)
Change the paper size appropriately.
Also, change the paper type to “photo paper” before printing.
You can check detailed instructions here: HP Printers - How to Print Photos (Windows)
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Let me know if those steps worked for you.
If they did, that’s awesome!
Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!
Good Luck.

I watched the video link on how to print glossy photo's and that's exactly how I have been trying to print photo's, but the problem remains unsolved.
But when I print a photo on plain A4 paper there is NO problem... every page comes out perfect.
It's only when I use glossy paper that I have problems.

Hi @John_London,
Thank you for replying,
As I understand you are still having issues while printing photos on Glossy paper. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
Let's try changing the printing preferences of your printer as suggested below:
- Go to control panel - Devices and printers
- Right-click on your Envy and choose the "Printing preferences" option.
- Now, go to paper quality / layout tab and make sure the paper type is selected as "Photo paper".
- Also, select the correct paper size and save the settings.
Now, follow the steps mentioned to print the photo:
- Open the picture using “Windows Photo Viewer” (You can right-click on the image and go to “Open with” to select the windows photo viewer app)
- Change the paper size appropriately.
- Also, change the paper type to “photo paper” before printing.
For more assistance, please go through the Printer Specifications, to know the paper handling specifications and check what paper does it support. Here is the link: Printer Specifications for HP DeskJet 4530, 4670, ENVY 4510, 4520, OfficeJet 4650 Printers
Please let me know whether that works for you or you need further assistance. Thank you!
Cheers 🙂

Thanks for your reply... I followed your instructions about the printer settings in the control panel but the printer still prints only half a photo when I use A4 paper, but it works fine on smaller sized glossy paper.
I almost managed to get a full print on A4 when I set the paper settings to "speciality glossy paper" instead of just 'photo paper' or 'glossy photo paper' or 'other glossy inkjet paper'.
I'm coming to the conclusion that this printer is not very good.
I guess you only get what you pay for.
But thanks for trying to help.
