HP 5520 PRINTER

This printer is relatively new in use. I had model C25280 and 5520. But was using model 5280 unitl 3 months ago when it had carriage jam problems and I then switched to using 5520. Now after about 3 months then 5520 has carriage problem.

Now the 5520 makes a rattling noise and carrige jam  errors. I like this printer and want to repair it

Does anybody in this forum mknow what the fix for this kind of problem. HP is not helping matters. I would love to repair it and not buy a new one.

Please help

Welcome to HP support community.

Check the carriage path for obstructions

  1. Press the Power button to turn on the printer if it is not on already.

  2. Open the cartridge access door.

    NOTE:

The carriage might try to move into the access area. If it does, allow it to move to that position.

Figure : Open the cartridge access door

  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

  4. Unplug the power cord from the power source or electrical outlet.

       WARNING:

To avoid the risk of electrical shock, you must unplug the power cord before moving the carriage by hand and resetting the paper feed mechanism.

  5. Check for and remove any loose paper or objects that might be restricting the carriage.

    NOTE:

Use a flashlight to thoroughly check for torn pieces of paper that might remain inside the printer. If any torn pieces of paper remain inside the printer, more jams are likely to occur.

  6. Reach into the cartridge access area, and then manually move the carriage.

    • If the carriage is stuck on the right side of the printer, move the carriage to the left side of the printer.

    • If the carriage is stuck on the left side of the printer, move the carriage to the right side of the printer.

    • If the carriage is stuck in the middle of the printer, move the carriage to the right side of the printer.

  7. Remove any loose paper or objects found.

  8. Reach into the cartridge access area, and then manually move the carriage again to make sure that it moves freely across the width of the printer.

If the carriage can move freely and the printer is new out of the box, then follow these steps to make sure that the cartridges are vented properly.

    1. Press the tab on the front of the cartridge inward to release it, and then pull up on the cartridge to remove it from the slot.

    2. Locate the vent area on the top of the cartridge.

      • If an Orange pull-tab is still attached, remove it.

      • If a vent is clogged, clean it carefully with a pin.

    3. With the nozzle and contacts facing down, slide the cartridge into its slot. Press down on the cartridge until it clicks into place.

      Figure : Reinsert the cartridge

    4. Repeat these steps to inspect the vents on each of the cartridges.

  9. Close the cartridge access door.

  10. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

  11. Plug the power cord back into the power source or electrical outlet.

  12. Press the Power button to turn on the printer.

Dear SandyTechy20,

Thank you for your solution. I still have carriage jam errors but rattling noise is gone. What I did was to open the top cover and thoroughly the inside of the printer. Cleaned the carriage rod, encoder strip and where the printer head parks to the right side of the printer. Do all of that took away the rattling noise.

I was very hopeful that it will be okay after the cleaning.

I did not find a loose gear or debris in the printer. Looks like all the hardware is functioning good.

Right now I am thinking that this may be an Ink Problem but not so sure. It looks like carriage jam errors means very many things of which papr jam is one.

The printer is very clean. But my black ink cartridge is finished.Don't know if I replace it it will work. don't want to spend money on thing that is not usable.

So again SandyTeechy20 thank you for helping. But carriage jam error is associated with so many things and the Manaufacturer is not helping.

Anyways, I just bought another printer CANNON TS6220. Hopefully , this will last.

But it would have been great to fix my HP5520 printer.

I did find one outfit in Racho Cucumonga in Southern California that repairs these printers. But the parts are so expensive.

So  fixing these printers is not very wise.

Regards,

DickTiger.
