@TonyLoius,

I reviewed the post. Thanks for the response. Superb troubleshooting and immaculate attitude were displayed by you. Kudos to you for that.:) As @KrazyToad is out for the day I am responding on his behalf.

Please try these steps:

  • Please perform a hard reset first on the printer by following instructions from this link: https://hp.care/2xSS7ma  and follow steps from this section “Step 1: Reset the printer

Then uninstall and reinstall the printer at the root level by following these steps:

  • Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
  • Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
  • Go to devices and printers, in control panel and select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
  • Click on print server properties.
  • You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
  • Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
  • Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
  • It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
  • If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
  • Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
  • Restart the PC again.

Then create a new user account as an administrator  from this link: https://hp.care/2rZfJBC

Log into the new user account after restarting your computer.

  • Then download the latest full feature driver from  https://hp.care/2rAtmK1  and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
  • Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
  • This should fix the issue.

If this does not do the trick, please download the Windows Built-in drivers by following instructions from this link: https://hp.care/2o3acvH There is an associated YouTube Video on how to do it.

This should resolve the issue for you.

Try another ethernet cable also. Please follow the steps to the "T"

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂

@TonyLoius

Welcome to HP Support Forums. A really great platform for posting all your questions and finding solutions.

I understand that your computer is not recognizing your Printer

I'll try my best to help

I suggest we start with a Printer Reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed

Then uninstall the printer driver from Root level and download the Full Feature Software

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
6.) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Restart the computer and download the Full Feature Software from Here and follow the onscreen Instructions

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you 🙂

Hi,

I followed the steps as outlined.

The issue remains.

I can see the scanner and fax in the windows printer and devices section only - there is no printer.

If I Click on the Desk top HpPro6960 icon and it goes through the set up all over again.

IF I run print doctor - PD sees teh TCP?IP printer, then runs through diagnostics.

Then states to install software - so I install the software again.

Then it can not find the printer - then it gets stuck in an endless loop - always asking to reinstall the software.

So here it is stuck in a loop again.

BTW - the only way to close the HP set up screen is through the task manager or it just keeps looping.

Any other suggestions?

BTW

I did a ping test to the IP address.

The results were no packets lost.

I turned ff the firewalls too.

HI David,

I appreciate the procedure you provided. however I did not implement it.

I belive I fixed the issue.

Late last night I :

uninstalled HP software

Deleted teh files from Program files

Deleted all HP printers from the Registry.

(Two locations)

There were some files from the old 7590 printer in the registry.

Then I cleaned the registry.

Rebooted the PC.

Turned on all the netowrk connections in the Windows services.

LOaded the HP full driver software.

Rebooted the PC

It is working now - hopefully the fix will last.

I suspect the registry was in conflict.

But I can't say for sure.

Hi

This post was very useful as  I went through a similar loop after my home network provider was changed and I had a new network installed. So I had to change the printer network and hence the IP address which caused a conflict with the previously installed printer settings in the registry on my PC.

I called the network provider who has a separate department charging £35 for faults with "connected devices" caused by changes in the network and that is not even the worth of the printer and I am sure they would never have guessed it!

Thanks HP - HA
