Officejet Pro 8610
A couple weeks ago I found the printer on when it should have shut down automatically at 11 pm. Subsequently for the next 2 days I got a message saying that you should not use a power strip and to shut the printer down normally vs turning the power strip off. I have no power strip, it is plugged directly into the wall outlet.
Now I am experiencing two issues:
1. it takes a long time to start to print. You normally hear the pen cartridge move a couple times to verify the pens are working properly, now it seems to do that for several minutes (3-4) and then it prints. If I have two documents back to back it does the same thing between documents.
2. Several times I have received an error that the printer head is stuck and the instructions are to open the cartridge door and remove the stuck paper. The head is not stuck, there is no paper in the machine printing area. As of lately, I have just opened the door and closed it and it prints, without doing anything to see if the carrier is stuck or if there is paper in the machine. It clears and works.
I do not know of any initiating cause for any of these things. It still prints fine but takes a long time like a sensor is not working properly.
Is there something I can check to see if I can clear this?
Thanks,
hg47

We can try a complete reset on the printer.
The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.
I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

@hg47, Welcome to HP Support Community!
I see that the printer is in an error state when you try to print and does not initialize for minutes before it starts printing. Let us try to isolate and resolve the issue.
Does this happen while making photocopies too?
Follow the steps below-
Remove the ink cartridges and reset the printer.
-
Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
-
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
-
Unplug the power cord from the power source.
-
Wait at least 60 seconds.
-
Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.
note:
HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.
-
Turn the printer on.
-
Reinsert the ink cartridges, and then close the ink cartridge access door.
Update the printer firmware
Download available firmware updates from the HP website
With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
Try printing. If the issue persists, we can perform a complete reset on the printer.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks TEJ1602,
To answer your question, yes it also goes through the same process prior to starting to copy.
I followed the instructions below, made sure I did every step as suggested.
I even changed a low black ink cartridge, it was not out but had the low indicator on.
I printed a one page document, it too 3 minutes from the time the doc was sent to the printer and it started up, hearing the print cartridge move before the page actually printed.
I then printed a two page document within a minute of the other one finishing (2 sided printing) and again it was in excess of 2 minutes before the printing actually started.
It is not like it is stuck in the queue, this time is from when the printer recognizes the doc and starts to move to ensure everything is working.
Immediately upon finishing the second document I received an error::
Again, there was no paper jam (this was what was happening prior to new dirver) I did not even open the ink cartridge door as the text on the printer recommends, all I did was Hit "OK" and I was able to print again, but with the same delay prior to printing after the printer starts going through its gyrations.
I have sent copies from Adobe, Firefox, email, Open Office and they all get the same response from the printer.
Sometimes I get that error when the page finishes printing, but Not everytime the printer finishes, I receive the above error, but frequently after the job has finished, it has never stopped a job as yet.
I have one additional cartridge getting low on Ink and will need replaced in the future. Since the cardridges are rather expensive, I need to make a decision as to the printers health before I spend the money which could be put to a replacement.
Do you have any other suggestions?
I do appreciate your time and effort, thank you very much.

TEJ1602,
24 hours later and the printer is functioning as it did prior to my issue starting. I had issues with the completion of the setup in the calibration section, but once that was resolved by unplugging the printer, all worked well.
Thanks again for your help and patience. Great Job.
