Upgraded Win 7 to Win 10 on June 30.
My 8610 is connected via wifi - my ethernet is Fiber 100
When I print, the page partially prints, pauses and the little wheel spins on the top line of printer display that says "printing", then the rest of the page or another section of the page prints, it pauses and then completes the page print.
I updated the drivers using oj8610_198.exe
rebooted
still the same pause sometimes one pause sometimes two. happens on a basic text file. single document printing. no other pc's are on.
It is mostly annoying, but will become a big issue when I have longer and more complex documents to print.
I had assumed that by now (10 months? since the release of Win10, these sorts of issues would have been resolved).
I will not go back to Win 7.
Is there some sort of data amount configuration that is sent in a block size that has been changed on Win10?

After more reading and searching online, I found other threads that discussed SLOW printing rather than pauses.
I have done much uninstalling and installing, unplugging and plugging printer power and wires.
I have found something that makes it tolerable == the pause on my tests so far has been minimal when they had become just about intolerable before.
Of note: I tried this "solution" several times, and it showed no difference, on my last attempt I also clicked "apply" in the printer properties box after the driver was installed and it works... I am afraid to jinx it.
This is a very ridiculous work around and HP needs to FIX this on the 8610 driver. Also of note... why does Microsoft NOT have drivers for the 8610 in their list....

OK for those stll having an issue, I had a customer service rep help me out.
1. Uninstall the useless driver that is supposed to work on this printer.
2. In Windows, Go into Control Panel, Printers and Devices,
3. Choose your misbehaving printer and right click on it and enter into Printer Properties
4. Select the advanced tab and next to driver select New Driver
5. In New Driver window click Next and then select Windows Update
6. Under Manufacturer select HP then under Printers select HP Deskjet 990c
7. Click Next and Finish and Voila! WHy we need to use this alternative driver is beyond me.
So much frustration but it finally works fine now for me.
Hope this helps someone out.
Cheers!

keeping my fingers crossed!

I've used this workaround for a couple days now.
I have no clue why using the Microsoft printer driver for the Deskjet990c works on the OfficejetPro 8610 but it does. The printing speed is tolerable. There is an oh so slight pause that I don't recall in the pre Windows 10 printing, but all I know is that the 8610 driver in OJ8610_198.exe does NOT work on my printer. The pauses and stutters are unacceptable and I was going to buy a new printer when the current batch of ink was used. Let's hope HP fixes the driver on the 8610. My printer is only 2 years old and I really do not want to replace it over something like this.

Hi,
Thanks for using the HP Forums.
Are you able to move the printer closer to the wireless router and see if teh performance improves?
How far away is your printer from the router and are there many walls in between?
Let us know if moving the printer closer to the router works.

The printer is in the same place it was prior to the upgrade to Win 10.
It is about 10 feet from the wifi router with only me sitting at the desk in between. I will not move the printer any closer.
Also, I made sure to test when there were no other items using the wifi during the printing.
And the PC was not running any other apps.

Hi,
Thanks for yoru feedback.
Was there any change to the router after the Win 10 upgrade?
Can you try creating and using a TCP/IP port and see if it resolves the issue?
Create a TCP IP port
1. Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address (you can also tap on the wireless icon on the Front panel of your Printer to get the IP address)
2. On your PC, go to Control Panel, from Devices and Printers, right click the printer and left click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.
3. Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.
4. Type in the proper IP address for the printer.
Note that you can ALWAYS revert back to the original port that the HP software installed by selecting the HP port under the Ports tab (in Printer Properties)
Let us know if that works!

Took me a bit
First I wanted to see what the difference was between using TCP/IP and the WSD Printer port (because after all you are a stranger). Then when I felt ok with it...
Took me a second because I was looking under properties and not Printer Properties like you said to find the port selection.
I added the tcp/ip port using the ip address found when I touched the wifi on the printer touch panel.
Sorry to say no change.
I figured I should reboot and turn off/on the printer
Still no change.
I've reverted back to the original WSD setting.
If I had to say, the tcp/ip maybe was slightly worse, but then it isn't really a measurable length or set number of pauses.
I tried it from my other pc on the return of the same desk, and it also pauses.
I did a google to see if there were any issues with the TDS fiber router and Win10, but didn't find any references.
BTW, thanks for your responses.

Hi,
Would you have any anti-virus software, firewall or VPN software that could be causing the pauses?
Here's some wireless troubleshooting steps ;
Solve wireless problems
1. Make sure the printer is not connected to the network through an Ethernet cable
Wireless does not work if the printer is connected to the network through an Ethernet cable. Disconnect the
Ethernet cable from the printer.
1. Make sure the wireless light is turned on
If the blue light on the printer control panel is not lit, wireless might be turned off. To turn on wireless, touch
or swipe down the tab at the top of a screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch (Wireless), touch
(Settings). Touch Wireless Settings, and then touch Wireless to turn it on.
If the blue wireless light is blinking, it means the printer is not connected to a network. Use the Wireless Setup
Wizard available from the printer control panel to make a wireless connection. Touch or swipe down the tab at
the top of a screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch (Wireless), touch (Settings). Touch Wireless
Settings, touch Wireless Setup Wizard, and then follow the onscreen instructions.
1. Make sure the computer or the mobile device is connected to the wireless network
Make sure your computer or mobile device is connected to your wireless network. If you cannot connect the
computer to the network, contact the person who set up your network or the router manufacturer; there might
be a hardware issue with the router or computer.
1. Restart components of the wireless network
Turn off the router and the printer, and then turn them back on in this order: router first and then printer.
Sometimes, turning off devices and then turning them back on helps resolve network communication issues.
If you still cannot connect, turn off the router, the printer, and the computer, and then turn them back on in this
order: router first, then printer, and then computer
Still have problems? Visit the HP Wireless Printing Center (www.hp.com/go/wirelessprinting). This website
contains the most complete, up-to-date information about wireless printing, as well as information to help you
prepare your wireless network; solve problems when connecting the printer to the wireless network; and resolve
security software issues.
Note: If you are using a computer running Windows, you can use the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool, which can help
solve many problems you might have with the printer. To download this tool, visit www.hp.com/go/tools.
Hope that helps.

No VPN.
I run Norton Security (as I did before upgrading to Win10) and I've downloaded any updates from Norton.
I disabled the smart firewall
and
I diabled the autoprotect
Still pauses when printing.
Never been any cables to the printer, pure wifi and the fax has never been configured, no phone line.
The printer's blue Wireless light is on steady.
All the HP info windows say it is running properly...
It DOES print, but with pauses that stops the page then it restarts, i'm not talking about minor things like before when something intense was printing.
The printouts are good looking, no inking issues, no staggered areas at the point of the pauses.
It is just annoying and if it doesn't get resolved, when I print a large document or high res pictures, I will have to leave the room to keep my stress level down.
Along with many googles, I had already checked out the HP website and used the HP Support Assistant and HP Print and Scan Doctor before I wrote to this forum.
Hopefully someone out there has the same issue and has resolved it.
Thanks for trying.
