I have read all the posts on this subject.  I have exactly the same problem - the random G that makes the 8720 go offline.  I must then unplug the printer, replug and it will work perfectly until the next random G.  I have gone through all the suggestions given and none make a difference.  Since several people have posted about this same problem it seems as though HP needs to take a serious look at what will fix it.  I don't want the hassle of taking the printer in (we all know it is a BIG machine) and then maybe getting it fixed while I am without a printer I need to use full-time.  Sure I can keep unplugging then plugging - in spite of bumping my head every time I crawl under the desk.    I am sure for every person who posts about this problem, 10-fold more have the problem.  So I suggest HP needs to take a hard look at this problem.

The printer is brilliant otherwise but this really is a big annoyance.

Very annoying. And wasteful. I second that!

Another Randomly printed sheet with a G on it.

Grrrrr

At least this is only one this week. I wonder if HP is doing this to drive up the instant ink print numbers to charge customers for more than they really should?

I strongly suspect that, since the 8620 is kind of long in the tooth now that HP isn't much interested in a fix for this.  From my very limited view it appears that this error pops up after the 8620 is well out of warranty.  An out-of-warranty issue in an older model printer simply doesn't generate an economic motivation for HP to come up with a fix.  They'd rather that you just buy a new printer.  My solution has been to leave the printer turned off until I need to use it.  Turn it on, use it, turn it back off.

It's not just the older 8620s. I have an 8710, bought nine months ago, that does the exact same thing, and did almost from the day I installed it.
