LaserJet MFP M140w

Windows 11

The printer has worked flawlessly for years, however, in the last week every time I power it on the Attention light is blinking. If I then press the Resume/Copy button the following error prints out: "A problem has occurred with your HP account and you will be unable to print very soon unless the issue is resolved. To learn more, open the HP Smart app or visit hpsmart.com...."

The HP smart app tells me next to nothing, just "Check your Account" and the web portal regurgitates the printed error message.

I've uninstalled and re-installed the printer, and the apps, as well as updated the printers firmware.

Furthermore, troubleshooting a printer that's spewing errors because of something going on remotely on  HP's back-end is patently absurd.   If i have to spend just 1 hour resolving this I'm going to introduce the printer to a 5 lb sledge in the backyard, and NEVER purchase another HP product ever again.

For those with the same issue...I did get it resolved by doing this:

blocked printer internet access via router
uninstalled HP smart
Restored Printer to factory default via the printers web interface (log into your router and check out your wifi clients)
Uninstalled Printer from Windows

Added printer to my wireless network via WPS
Added printer to Windows with built in windows tools

Instant Notification light
New Error: Your HP+ Printer must be set up using HP Smart app....(lol, totally unnecessary, windows has all the drivers it needs, HP is just being a D-bag)

Installed HP Smart
Blocked HP Smart Internet access via software firewall
Added printer in HP Smart Via IP address (auto-detect failed. I was sort of surprised this worked since HP smart was being blocked by the firewall \o/)

Hp Smart will not register the printer until it is connected to the internet
but the HP app never hit my firewall, sooooo.. the printer itself must be phoning home
Testing hypotheses:
Unblocked printer via Router
Registered printer in the HP Smart App
Completed Registration/Setup
Notification Light turned off (it remains on until you complete the setup)
Removed Printer Internet access
Powercycled Printer

Success...zero notification lights and printer prints successfully. This does have its downsides but its working.
