Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that the is a prompt for a password on your Mac computer while trying to print from your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer. Not to worry, I'll be glad to assist you with this case.

You might be able to find the wireless network password from a computer that is connected to the wireless network. To view the network password on a Mac, open the Keychain Access application.

  1. In the Finder menu, click Go, and then click Utilities.

  2. Open the Keychain Access application.

  3. In the Keychains list, click Local Items.

  4. In the Category list, click Passwords.

  5. Double-click the wireless network name, then select the Show password check box.

  6. If prompted, type your administrator password, and then click OK.

Hope this information helps. Keep me posted for further assistance.

Cheers! 🙂

We haven't heard from you.

This post is with reference to the thread you had recently created at HP Forums.

Upon further research (with the help of our Forums community expert @StretchMusic), here is what you can try:

  • Go to Apple >> Logout and login with Admin User.

    Cheers!

I'm am trying to print FROM my iMac TO the HP printer.

I was printing fine without being prompted for a user name and password. Then, about a week ago, it started prompting for a user name and password for the printer, not the network. Notice the printer icon in this message:

Please let know how to remove this prompt. Thank you

Thank you so much for your patience.

It appears that you have logged in with a guest user account on the computer. Please confirm if you are logged out of the guest account or not.

Also, I request you to post a screen shot of the Users & Groups System Preference. You can get there by going Apple>System Preferences>Users & Groups.

I'll watch out for your reply. Eager to help!

I'm not signed in as a guest. The guest account is disabled. See below.

This log-in looks like it is associated with the printer. Can the printer request a user name and password?

Another reason I think it is the printer asking for the user name and password is this message from the printer queue:

It's holding the printout for authentication.

Thanks for replying.

I suggest you to check in the EWS (Embedded Web Server) page of the printer. The EWS should be in settings >> security a section for Password Settings and Administrator Settings and you may disable it.

Please click here to know how to access the EWS page.

You could share the screen shot of the EWS page if the settings cannot be located.

Finally, if the issue persists then you may view my private message t reset the printer. Resetting the printer will restore the printer completely back to its original factory condition.

I have you a private message with the printer reset steps.

Hope this works out. Let me know. Good luck!

I finally reset the printer to factory settings and the user name and password prompt went away.
