I have popped up the automatic document feeder cover and the entire assembly to remove a jam, and it will not snap back down into place.... What is the trick...?

Hi @beckylousiana

Welcome to the HP Support Forums. There isn't really a trick to it. I find it works best if you lower the assembly first and then the cover.

Nothing is mentioned in the standard paper jam doc.

Couldn't find a video for the 6700 either. This printers ADF seems very similar. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xi14x2W-yU

Hope this helps. If it does, Great! Give us some reinforcement by hitting the solution and kudos buttons, that’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!

This does seem to be the fix!. When I initially opened it, I felt like it popped open, but it must have been the paper jam! 🙂 thanks!

I don't have a paper jam.  It is a mechanical issue.  On the hinged side of the feeder cover towards the front of the machine, shown in the attached photo.  The black plastic is stuck in the white slow and will not release.  I need instructions on how to release the black plastic from the slot.InkedDocument Feeder Photo_LI.jpg
