HP Photosmart 6520
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

My hp Photosmart 6520 has worked well since 2012.  We have been printing from a Mac, iPhone, and a Windows 10 computer.  However, when I changed ink cartridges, the black ink does not print.  I have cleaned the printhead, aligned, and turned off and on.  The diagnostic page prints in black and the other colors are fine.

What could have changed?  Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

  • Try making a standalone copy in black and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.
  • Which application are you trying to print from?
  • Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word, or Webpages and check if the issue persists?

If the printer is able to make a copy in black, it means the hardware is fine and this could be a driver issue.

 

If you have tried the steps mentioned in this document and the issue persists, this could be a hardware issue with the ink cartridge or the printhead of the printer. 

 

Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

I have printed from multiple applications (word, outlook, numbers) and black ink does not print.  It does print on the diagnostic page, however.  I tried with black ink only, and nothing on paper.  I also tried using the "copy" function on black ink and nothing as well.

I have tried all printer service options and get no black printing on anything? I have replaced the cartridge also

If you have tried the steps mentioned in my previous post and if the copies come out blank, it means it is a hardware issue with the printer.

 

If the printer is out of warranty, I suggest you upgrade the printer. You may visit Hp Store to check the available printers.

I have tried all of the options, copy , ink tools ... cleaning the ink cartridge and the ink pool thingy .... still no black .  Sure it is hardware issue .... can it be fixed?
