Hi all, I have put a new black cartridge in the printer and now the black just smudges all over the printed word.  I have tried all the tests and it sometimes comes back and says printer busy or clean failed.  I have turned it on and off still nothing.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks

Thank you for joining the HP Community

Put the old cartridge and check if it works fine.

Are you facing the same issue while making a copy?

I suggest you do a Hard Reset on the printer

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.

(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

If there are smears of ink on the back of your printouts, you can use an automated tool to resolve the issue.

  1. Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already on.

  2. Load paper into the input tray.

  3. Press and hold the Power button, press the Cancel button (three times, press the Start Copy Color button (eight times, and then release the Power button.

The printer feeds one page slowly. The printer might make some noise for approximately one minute.

  4. Wait until the page is out of the printer before you remove it.

  5. Examine the test page.

Hi Raj1788

I did what you suggested, but it has not worked.  There is an orange light constantly flashing and also I heard an internal beeping for about 3 times then it stops.  The orange light flashes against the black dot indicating the black cartridge is the problem.

What can I do now?

Thanks
